Kolwa Pacho recently organized an impactful tournament in Chiga village, Kisumu, centered on menstrual hygiene and women’s health. Held in early January 2023, this event aimed to support the needs of young girls in the community by providing essential supplies like sanitary towels, bras, panties, and tights. By addressing the issue of access to menstrual products, which many girls in rural areas often lack, the tournament fostered a safe space for open discussions and encouraged self-care and confidence among young women.
In collaboration with Kisumu County, the event expanded its focus to overall health by offering cancer screenings, HIV testing, and counseling services. Peer educators also led sessions on health awareness and personal growth, empowering girls with essential knowledge about their well-being. Due to financial challenges, the tournament could not be held last year, but there is hope for another in December 2024. This gathering has set a meaningful example, inspiring the community to support young women’s health and confidence and reinforcing the importance of accessible healthcare and education.
