The young men and women in Nyalenda and Obungu/Nyawita informal settments in Kisumu Central constituency was to be the beneficiaries of this project. NYS engage 4000 youth in a model similar to Kibera slum where the youth were regimented and work under the supervision of the servicemen. There are 23 villages in total, 13 in Nyalenda and 10 in Obungu/Nyawita. The president in his speech encouraged
the young residents to enroll as Kibera alone had managed to save upto 100million in their projects. “ I will be back after 6 months to ensure, toilet, clinics, posho mills, fish tanks and the roads that you re going to assist in construction are completed”
The willingness of the youth in Kisumu to be part of the programme saw 4,000 community youth recruited by the Saturdays 25th April, 3 days after the president called them for registration.
