Maranatha Orphanage started in 2009 when Ven Nyatichi and Sophy Mwango felt a push from their hearts to start a small home to help the needy children and especially orphans without a home or anybody to turn to for help; this was an experience during their numerous child evangelistic trips to the streets and families to share God’s word to the kids/children. During this trips they meet children who
had no mom or dad, some living in streets, begging for food, slept on the street, without cloths and they were treated badly by violent and unmerciful people. After much prayers and fasting, Ven & Sophy decided to share the needs of poor and needy orphans to the church where I served as a pastor, we all realized and felt this need in our hearts, we started to pray together asking God to provide a building, and money for food, beddings, clothing and education. I and my wife offered to house the already identified orphans, and a few well-wishes offered to help with food. We officially registered as a Christian religious gospel & charity institution by the Kenya Government on the 7th of March 2013. More than 67 orphans have lived in the orphanage since 2009; presently we are caring and providing for 27 orphans and feeding an additional 20 - so many still in the waiting list.
