The On-going Downpour: Blessing or Curse?
Unprecedented rains are here with us, forcing us and the government to make impromptu directives even in the wee hours of the night. As the waters recede and the sun breaks through the clouds, we are confronted with the harsh reality of our impact on the environment. The floods lay bare the consequences of unchecked urbanization, deforestation, and climate change, urging us to rethink our relationship with the natural world. Nature is slowly but sternly reclaiming its space! As this happens, we are reminded of the urgent need to mitigate our carbon footprint, protect vital ecosystems, and build more resilient infrastructure to withstand the growing threat of extreme weather events. The rains serve as a wake-up call, compelling us to take bold action to safeguard our planet for future generations.
Despite the devastation and loss of animals, human life, and properties, the rains also offer moments of beauty and renewal as parched landscapes are transformed into verdant oases of life. In the persistent and unrelenting droplets of rain, we find solace and inspiration as the earth is replenished and rejuvenated. Arid areas like Ukambani and North Eastern can now identify colour green beyond Mpesa shops!😀 The rains teach us the importance of gratitude and appreciation for the precious gift of water, reminding us to cherish and protect this life-sustaining resource. As we emerge from the storm; as we mourn the loss we’ve experienced; as we remain stranded due to impassable roads, we carry with us the lessons learned from the on-going rains, vowing to tread more lightly upon the earth and embrace the profound interconnectedness of all living beings.
