The Kipsongo Project

The Kipsongo Project 501c3 nonprofit working to empower the community in the Kipsongo Slum in Kenya Kipsongo is one of the worst slums in Africa.

The Kipsongo Project is a non-profit organization located in Kipsongo Slum in Kenya. Its goal is to create long-term, sustainable economic and social well-being for residents of Kipsongo through a locally sourced, designed and manufactured fashion line. Housing conditions are horrendous, residents have virtually no access to healthcare, education or employment opportunities, and a majority of chil

dren are severely malnourished. The Kipsongo Project aims to improve this dire situation by employing Kipsongo women to create a fashion line blending traditional Africa fabrics with modern, high-end fashion and design. The line is sold in Kenya and around the world with proceeds being invested in development initiatives within the slum including micro-enterprise development, a primary school, a medical clinic, a child nutrition program and more. Betty received a solar power irrigation system from the Project a few years back and has been enjoying the benefits of improved crop output, electricity, and easily accessible water. Unfortunately the battery for the system died a few months ago. Last week our team brought her a replacement battery and her system is back up and running!
