Last August, we had the privilege of transforming learning at school No. 8 of the Digital Literacy Program (DLP), Nairobi South Primary School, which was made possible by our project sponsor, our very own Rtn Marlon Lugadiru.

Founded in 1954 to serve the growing Nairobi South community, Nairobi South Primary has long been a hub for foundational education, shaping young minds and futures for decades. Today, that legacy continues, now strengthened with access to digital tools and opportunities.

Through the DLP, the school received a fully equipped, secure computer lab with 25 computers (24 for students, 1 for the teacher), a projector, printer, inverter & UPS, furniture, and robust security systems. Beyond the infrastructure, the program includes licensed software, KICD-approved content, teacher training, and ongoing support ensuring learners are not just introduced to technology, but empowered to use it confidently.

We also spent the day engaging in mentorship sessions, tree planting, and sharing dignity packs creating a holistic experience that nurtures both minds and community.

This is what impact looks like: equipping, empowering, and investing in the future one school at a time. ๐Ÿ’ก

Back in February, we embarked on a journey across Nyanza, one that truly embodied service, sacrifice, and impact. โœจ

In partnership with Signify Foundation, we crossed Lake Victoria, travelling over two hours by boat to reach Kiwa Island, where access to reliable lighting has long been a challenge. Through this initiative, solar lighting solutions were installed, directly impacting children who can now study after dark and pursue their education with renewed hope.

The tour extended across multiple counties, reaching Ligose Primary School and Daho Primary School in Ugunja, bringing sustainable solutions and meaningful engagement to each community.

Beyond infrastructure, it was a moment of connection, reminding us that service is not just about what we give, but the relationships we build along the way.

The Great Nyanza Tour stands as a testament to what is possible when commitment meets purpose. ๐Ÿ’ก

In the heart of Kiambu County, we proudly launched Digital Literacy Program (DLP) Lab No. 10 at Kiawaroga Primary School in January, continuing our mission to bridge the digital divide and empower young learners with essential technology skills. ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ“š

This initiative, spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Nairobi Langโ€™ata and led by our Project Sponsor, Past President Muchai Mathare, in partnership with Computer for Schools Kenya, and supported by fellow Rotary clubs and partners, equips the school with a secure and fully functional computer lab, complete with 25 computers, a printer, projector, power backup systems, learning content, and teacher training.

Beyond technology, the day was about holistic impact. Rotarians and partners engaged students through mentorship sessions, tree planting, and the distribution of dignity packs, reinforcing our commitment to education, sustainability, and student wellbeing. ๐ŸŒฑ

We were also delighted to be joined by Immediate Past District Governor Dr. Joe Kamau, who has continually supported both our club and the Digital Literacy Program. His encouragement to keep scaling the project and thinking bigger continues to inspire our efforts, and he reaffirmed his commitment to the program as a powerful tool for transforming learning.

A heartfelt thank you to all the clubs, partners, and volunteers whose continued collaboration and dedication make these projects possible.

Our guest speaker this week is CPA George Obell, MBS, Commissioner for the Micro & Small Taxpayers Department at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). With over 28 years of experience in tax administration, policy development, and international tax cooperation, he brings deep insight into Kenyaโ€™s tax landscape.

He has held several senior leadership roles at KRA and has led major reforms in digital tax systems, risk-based audits, and data-driven compliance strategies. Internationally, he served as Kenyaโ€™s first tax expert on the UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters and currently chairs the ATAF VAT Technical Committee.

Have questions about eTIMS and tax compliance? Bring them on Thursday, he has confirmed he will answer them.

Last year we went back to Munyu Primary School for an impactful service visit that brought together mentorship, environmental action, and learning support. In partnership with KEFRK for tree planting, Plascon for classroom painting, and Kasuku for learning materials, we donated books, refreshed learning spaces, planted trees, and mentored students, building brighter futures together. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ“š

This visit was especially meaningful as it marked a return to one of the schools RCL supported over a decade ago, reaffirming our commitment to education, sustainability, and nurturing the next generation.

March marks Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Month, one of Rotaryโ€™s key areas of focus. During this time, as Rotarians we reaffirm our commitment to improving access to clean water, promoting proper sanitation, and sustaining good hygiene practices within our communities.

This week, we are privileged to host the Principal of Kambui Girls High School, one of the beneficiaries of a WASH project proudly implemented by our club. She will share firsthand insights on the impact of this initiative and the difference it continues to make.

Join us for this meaningful and inspiring session as we reflect on our service and the lives we are transforming together.
