From creating spaces for young people to speak openly, to making reliable s*xual and reproductive health information more accessible, Gloria is showing what youth-led change can look like in Congo-Brazzaville.

Through youth leadership, digital innovation and locally led advocacy, she is helping advance SRHR and challenge the silence around issues that affect young people’s lives.

It starts with being willing to question the laws we inherited, including laws that criminalise abortion.
Across Africa, people are already doing this. Advocates, health workers, lawyers, feminists and communities are pushing for laws that reflect the realities of people’s lives today.

It is about Africans having the freedom to shape their own reproductive future.

Who gets to decide what counts as an “African value”?

Africa is not one country, one culture or one voice. Our views on family, relationships, health and reproduction have never been exactly the same.
And a law is not automatically a reflection of everyone’s values.

So when abortion is criminalised, it is worth asking: who made that decision, whose views shaped it, and who gets to change it?
Let’s have that conversation without assuming there is only one African answer.

Across Africa, many abortion laws have roots in legal systems inherited from colonial rule. Understanding where these laws came from matters, especially when they continue to shape people’s lives today.

We are asking a simple question: if some of these laws were inherited, why should they define Africa’s future?
