👯‍♀️In Côte d’Ivoire, Stop au Chat Noir provided legal support to a 12-year-old survivor of r**e by her stepfather, as well as to her mother, who had also experienced violence. As part of this support, the organization engaged Me Francine AKA-ANGHUI to provide legal counsel, defend their interests, and accompany them throughout the judicial proceedings.

đź’ŞThe case resulted in the perpetrator being found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison. The court also awarded FCFA 10.5 million in damages, FCFA 10 million to the young survivor and FCFA 500,000 to her mother.

Beyond the verdict, this case demonstrates why accessible, survivor-centred legal assistance matters.

Building on this case, the organization is strengthening its advocacy on sexual violence against children and the barriers they continue to face in accessing justice.

This work is carried out by Stop au Chat Noir as part of the Justice for Survivors (J4S) project.

Promoting Inclusive Access to Justice for GBV Survivors in Guinea

👯‍♀️ Afrique Arc-en-ciel Guinée Conakry officially launched the Justice for Survivors (J4S) project at INIRAP, Guinea, bringing together government authorities, human rights organizations, partners, and civil society around a shared commitment to improving access to justice and eliminating gender-based violence (GBV).

The workshop introduced the project's objectives, target beneficiaries, planned activities, expected results, and implementation roadmap. Discussions focused on strengthening community awareness, establishing confidential peer-led legal support and referral mechanisms for survivors, and reinforcing collaboration between protection institutions to ensure survivors can safely access justice and reclaim their rights.

🌸The event concluded with strong commitments from public institutions and partners to work alongside the CSO in advancing an inclusive, coordinated, and survivor-centred response to gender-based violence.

🍀Justice for Survivors (J4S) is committed to advancing survivor-centred, locally led solutions that break barriers to justice and ensure that every survivor of gender-based violence can exercise their rights without fear or discrimination.

Strengthening Inclusive Justice for Women and Girls with Disabilities

On 16–17 July 2026, the Réseau Ouest Africain des Femmes Handicapées ROFAH convened a two-day training in Conakry, bringing together 20 representatives from the police, judiciary, gendarmerie, health sector, and civil society to strengthen disability-inclusive responses to gender-based violence (GBV).

Implemented as part of the Justice for Survivors (J4S) project, the workshop addressed the barriers that women and girls with disabilities face in accessing justice and support services. Through interactive learning and cross-sector dialogue, participants strengthened their capacity to deliver survivor-centred care, improve referral pathways, and enhance coordination across institutions.

The training also underscored the importance of investing in accessible services, continuous capacity building, and the meaningful participation of women with disabilities in designing, implementing, and evaluating GBV responses.

By supporting locally led initiatives such as ROFAH, the Justice for Survivors (J4S) project is helping to build more inclusive, coordinated, and survivor-centred justice systems across CĂ´te d'Ivoire, Guinea, Kenya, and Tanzania, ensuring that no survivor is left behind.

IPPF Africa Regional Director Dr. Claudia Shilumani concluded an official mission to Mauritius, held from 8–12 July and hosted by our Affiliate, the Mauritius Family Planning and Welfare Association (MFPWA).

The visit included audiences with His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, His Excellency the Vice President, Mr. Jean Yvan Robert Hungley, the Minister of Health and Wellness, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, alongside partners including WHO and the SADC Parliamentary Forum.

As part of the visit, she joined partners to launch “Espace Mauzen”, MFPWA's new youth friendly services centre in Port Louis, funded by the European Union. Launched in the presence of the Vice President, Espace Mauzen combines a dedicated safe space, trained peer leaders and an innovative chatbot to bring quality sexual and reproductive health information and services to young Mauritians, in person and online.

The mission secured concrete commitments to advance SRHR in Mauritius, from expanding access to breast cancer screening to strengthening services for survivors of gender-based violence and advancing fertility care. It ended with a visit to witness locally-rooted health service delivery at a community health centre, catering to the varying needs of the population in need of services.

Mauritius has been a pioneer of family planning in Africa since MFPWA's founding in 1957. This mission reaffirmed that legacy and the strength of the partnership between IPPF, MFPWA and the Government and people of Mauritius.

Advancing Gender Equality Through Innovation, Partnership, and Youth Leadership

On 13–14 July 2026, FON and Justice for Survivors (J4S) participated in two events hosted by the University of Nairobi, following an invitation from AFD - Agence Française de Développement.

From contributing to the development of a Gender Action Plan for the University's Engineering and Science Complex to showcasing youth-led innovations during Youth Innovation Day, the events highlighted the power of collaboration in advancing gender equality and inclusive development.

Our partners Youth Changers Kenya, SafeOnline Women Kenya -SOW-Kenya, Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW), TICAH, and Youth for a Sustainable World - YSW shared innovative, community-led approaches to addressing gender-based violence, promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights, supporting mental health, and improving access to justice for survivors.

By supporting locally led solutions and fostering cross-sector collaboration, FON and Justice for Survivors (J4S) continue to strengthen access to justice, protection, and comprehensive support for survivors of gender-based violence across Kenya.

Combating Gender-Based Violence: Strengthening the Role of the Media for Responsible Reporting

As part of the implementation Access to Justice for GBV Survivors project in the Conakry Region, ONG "Mon Enfant Ma vie " organized a capacity-building session for journalists.

The training focused on promoting ethical and survivor-centred reporting on gender-based violence (GBV), equipping media professionals with the knowledge and skills to report responsibly while respecting the dignity, rights, and confidentiality of survivors.

By investing in the capacity of media professionals, the project contributes to building an informed public discourse that supports survivors and advances accountability.

The activity is part of the Justice for Survivors (J4S) project funded by AFD - Agence Française de Développement, with IPPF, Center for Reproductive Rights and Association des Femmes Juristes de Côte D'Ivoire as Consortium partners.

The Justice for Survivors (J4S) project is committed to advancing access to justice for survivors of gender-based violence by providing flexible funding to local organizations. The project is implemented in CĂ´te d'Ivoire, Guinea, Kenya, and Tanzania.
