E-HORN and ELOG participated in the Post-Election High-Level and Multi-Stakeholder National Advocacy Forum on Civic Space, convened by the Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organisations (CEHRO) under the AHEAD Africa programme.

The forum provided an important platform for stakeholders to reflect on Ethiopia’s electoral experience, the state of civic space, and the challenges and opportunities shaping civic and political participation.

Discussions focused on key aspects of civic space, including freedom of expression, access to information, freedom of association, peaceful assembly, and citizen participation, alongside emerging trends and challenges affecting civic actors.

For E-HORN and ELOG, the engagement provided an opportunity for cross-country learning and exchange, drawing on experiences from election observation and democratic processes across the Horn of Africa.

Through such engagements, E-HORN and ELOG contributed regional perspectives to discussions on strengthening civic space, citizen participation, accountability, and electoral integrity throughout the electoral cycle.

A thriving civic space is fundamental to credible elections.

As Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Elections, citizens need safe and meaningful spaces to participate, organise, access information, express themselves and hold institutions accountable.

At the 6th Civic Space Protection Summit in Makueni, ELOG joins civic actors, human rights defenders, journalists, youth movements, and other stakeholders to reflect on the state of civic space and identify collective strategies to protect democratic participation.

Today, as we mark the International Day of Democracy 2026, the message is clear: young people must not only be heard they must have the agency and ownership to shape the decisions that affect their lives and communities.

🗣️ Raising hands and voices: Fostering youth agency and ownership through deliberative democracy is a call to create spaces where young people can speak, participate, deliberate, and influence public decisions meaningfully.

At Elections Observation Group (ELOG), we believe democracy is stronger when citizensare active participants in shaping its future.
