There is a lot of crying in Kilifi on the ground against the county government. From poor and inefficient county public service delivery, stalled projects, to the notorious issue of pending bills that has dogged the county government and now appears to be pushing it towards the precipice of insolvency.

But sometimes people don't want to speak the truth. In Kilifi, what is perpetuating poverty, underdevelopment, poor public service delivery, stalled projects, and general inefficiency in the county public service is, fundamentally, greed among the leadership.

The Executive is greedy. The County Assembly is greedy. From top to bottom, the county leadership does not appear to be driven by how best it can serve the public. The CECs, COs, MCAs, and the Governor seem more focused on how much wealth they can accumulate during their five-year tenure and the extent to which they can showcase their newfound wealth—cars, houses, businesses, and other possessions.

The result is a leadership culture where self-interest takes precedence over public service, with leaders seemingly competing among themselves over who can accumulate more.

Unless there is a fundamental mindset change among those seeking elective leadership positions in Kilifi, we may still have a long way to go before the days of redemption emerge.

That is our tragedy in Kilifi County.

I AM happy to see Kenyans waking up and speaking out against attempts to undermine the proposed KSh 2.2 trillion Dangote Oil Refinery investment in Lamu. What gives me even greater hope is that the voice of reason is becoming louder than the noise of propaganda and falsehoods.

Kenyans are increasingly recognizing the potential of this revolutionary investment to create jobs, strengthen local industries, reduce reliance on imports, attract investment, and transform Kenya’s economy. This is bigger than politics. It is about the kind of economic opportunities and industrial future we want to build for Kenya.

I am glad to see Kenyans coming together to support an investment with the potential to reshape our economic landscape for generations to come. Thanks to the visionary leadership of H.E President William Samoei Ruto.

The voice of reason must continue to rise. 🇰🇪
