Baha Madzo Gadze at the Africa MICE Summit

Our Chairperson, Mr. Steven Otieno, represented Baha Madzo Gadze for Charity at the Africa MICE Summit at Tembo conventional center in Mombasa county, an important platform bringing together stakeholders around business events, partnerships, investment, and opportunities across Africa.

His participation provided an opportunity to connect, learn, exchange ideas, and explore potential partnerships that can contribute to stronger organizational networks and create new opportunities for community-focused initiatives.

Baha Madzo Gadze for Charity, in collaboration with Blue Heart Movement, Kilifi Municipality, and the Safe Disposal of Diapers Initiative, conducted a beach clean-up exercise at Mnarani Beach Old Ferry to commemorate the life and legacy of Mr. Sammy Komu, a former member of Baha Madzo Gadze for Charity and a dedicated environmental conservation champion in Kilifi. The activity brought together 34 participants, including his brother Oscar Komu, family members, friends, community volunteers, and environmental stakeholders. Through their collective efforts, a total of 356.33 kg of waste was collected, comprising 81.86 kg of used diapers and 274.47 kg of plastic and general waste. In addition to the clean-up, participants received public health and environmental education led by Kevin Anungo Shikuku , focusing on proper waste management, environmental cleanliness, disease prevention, El Niño preparedness, protection of water sources, safe use of medication, flood preparedness, and the importance of knowing emergency contact numbers. The exercise served as a meaningful tribute to Mr. Sammy Komu's commitment to environmental conservation while promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient coastal community.

Our Chairperson joined fellow youth at Weslux Office in Bofa for an important dialogue on mental health and su***de prevention. This gathering reminded us of the urgent reality: too many young people are silently battling depression, stress, and other unclear challenges that tragically lead to su***de.

As youths, we carry a responsibility to stand together to listen, to support, and to create safe spaces where no one feels alone in their struggles.

Our organization believes that healing and empowerment can be nurtured through environmental and climate change activities. By engaging in beach clean ups, town clean ups, and other community‑driven initiatives, we bring young people together not only to protect our environment but also to connect, share, and build resilience.

These activities are more than just environmental actions they are platforms for dialogue, friendship, and hope. They allow youths to express their concerns, find purpose, and be part of meaningful change in society.

Together, we are committed to creating a future where mental health is prioritized, where su***de is prevented, and where every young person feels valued and supported.

International Coastal Cleanup – Vidazini Beach

Baha Madzo Gadze for Charity joined fellow environmental organizations, community members, students, the County Government, the Municipality of Kilifi, and Vidazini BMU to commemorate International Coastal Cleanup Day at Vidazini Beach.

The cleanup involved waste collection, sorting, and weighing, resulting in 339.12 kg of waste collected. This highlights the continued need for regular coastal cleanups and stronger community action to keep our beaches clean, safe, and sustainable.

We sincerely thank all organizers, partners, and participants for making the event successful and impactful. As an organization, we remain committed to protecting our oceans and coastal environment.

Through the County Government of Kilifi, Department of Environment, Baha Madzo Gadze for Charity was honored to host a team from WWF Nairobi for an engagement focused on our ongoing community-based environmental work.

The visit provided an important platform for knowledge exchange, reflection, and exploring opportunities to strengthen our programmes and collective impact, particularly in environmental conservation, waste management, and plastic collection initiatives.

The engagement also offered an opportunity to share our experiences, community approaches, and the progress we continue to make in advancing environmental awareness and action at the grassroots level.

We sincerely appreciate WWF Nairobi for the engagement and look forward to continued collaboration, shared learning, and stronger partnerships in building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Kilifi.

Through interactive discussions, the students discovered how trees provide clean air, protect soil from erosion, regulate the water cycle, and support biodiversity by offering shelter to countless species.

The session also emphasized the community benefits of trees — from shade and beauty to fruits and medicinal resources — showing learners that trees are not just part of nature, but vital partners in our daily lives.

Together, the Environmental Club is shaping a greener, healthier future by nurturing knowledge, responsibility, and action among young people.
