Implementation is not only about what we achieve. It is also about what we learn, how we grow, and how we care for the people behind the work.
After a year of implementing the Tunza Project under the Jasiri Program, we had the privilege of hosting our partners, Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) Kenya alongside consortium partners Advocates for Social Change Kenya- Adsock, CCGD, and GROOTS Kenya, together with Mastercard Foundation, the overall partner supporting the Jasiri Program, for an engaging reflection session on our first year of implementation.
Through Tunza, we have worked closely with the Kilifi County Government, CSOs, local gatekeepers, Community Health Promoters, parents, young people, and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) to strengthen community capacity, create awareness, and advocate for stronger prevention and response to GBV and SRHR.
The project has focused on supporting survivors and young women at risk by connecting them to psychosocial support, financial literacy, skills development, and pathways to economic empowerment through grants and loans, through our partnership with CREAW Kenya.
Our reflection gave us an opportunity to look beyond the achievements and honestly examine what worked, what challenged us, what we learned, and what needs to be strengthened as we move forward. These conversations are critical because sustainable impact requires the willingness to pause, listen, learn, and adapt.
Importantly, we also turned the lens inward and reflected on the people behind the work. In the urgency of serving communities and driving change, organizational and personal wellbeing can easily be overlooked. Sustainable impact is built by teams that are not only committed, but also supported, heard, valued, and well.
We are grateful for the opportunity to pause, reflect, receive feedback, celebrate progress, acknowledge the gaps, and look ahead with renewed purpose.
Every reflection is an opportunity to learn. Every lesson is an opportunity to improve. And every improvement brings us closer to the change we envision.
