KOPE runs several programmes in the county which include Health and social services programme, Environmental conservation, Peer Education, organizational development and theatre. Coming from a region that has been overshadowed by poverty accompanied with poor living standards, high levels of illiteracy not to mention the incarceration of the people especially the youth into drug abuse and HIV / AI
DS, we of diverse personalities saw it best to come together and effect a positive change to our community that will ensure improvement of its livelihoods. K.O.P.E (Kilifi Organization of Peer Educators), uses the power, strength and zeal of the youth to bring about change into their society. Peer education is the means by which we effect the much desired change. We are a group of peer educators who have dedicated ourselves to see the positive change within the circles of our community. We do these through various ways; magnet theater (skits, plays, poems, dances, drama etc), peer counseling, giving motivational talks, holding group discussions, advocacy among others. It is said that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow but as we like to put it we the youth, are the leaders of today, because unless we know how to lead now how shall we know how to do it tomorrow. Henceforth following this mantra we took it upon ourselves to drive home the much hungered change in our community by first starting with ourselves then the ripple effect flowing to the rest of our peers reaching out to the other members of the community. We have been able to work on a number of projects including an open day for the different stakeholders in Kilifi who are involved in peer eduction showcasing what they do, health forums involving testing of HIV / AIDS plus counseling of the same,condom promotion and distribution, advocacy on drug abuse, visiting children homes, clean up activities planting of trees, forums on economic empowerment especially for the youth, youth and / in governance among others. Besides this we are working closely with UWEZO Kenya, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports- Kilifi, PLAN Kenya - Kilifi, ICRH - Kilifi, D.O.T Kenya to mention but a few. We are a group that is dedicated and committed to what we are doing and to what we intend to achieve all geared towards making a difference.
