The Chess Champions Club is on!
Last week we launched it, with Kosi (aka the Chess Maestro) teaching the kids the moves. Most walked in as complete beginners - but like a knight, they've hopped straight over the learning stage. Full steam ahead already. Kosi's so impressed he's talking about local competitions soon.
Every king started as a pawn!

Not every day at The Hub is ribbon-cuttings and good lighting. Some days it's cracked walls and potholes in the pavement, and Sammy, our Hub Manager, has to deal with it.
Yesterday morning he went out, grabbed two bags of cement and a load of sand, and got the wall cracks patched up and the pavement holes filled before they turned into real problems. And it's a chance to repaint our hopscotch paths to get the kids hopping.
The breakdown:
2 bags of cement — Ksh 1,560
Sand — Ksh 3,000
Total — Ksh 4,560 (£26)
Small money, but this is the part nobody posts about. Keeping a place looking sharp isn't one big renovation, it's these little unglamorous fixes done consistently.

For some, Future Hope Hub is a fun, safe place where they come for football practice, chess club, homework, and friends; but for others, like the group above, it is literally home.
These are the lads we sponsor into secondary school, house and feed. Without us, and you the donors, they wouldn't have a roof over their heads or food in their bellies. Vital, unsung, community work that forms the heart of what we do.

Tomorrow the mats get rolled up, the chess sets go back in their boxes, and story time closes its final chapter. School looms.
It's been a brilliant couple of weeks - full of noise, energy and a few scraped knees along the way. To our Youth Group, who gave up their own holiday to show up for the next generation, thank you. To Zawadi and her team, who turned out 100 meals every single day without fail, thank you. And to Sammy, the quiet engine behind the whole Hub, who kept everything running and made sure every secondary school kid was on the right bus back to school this morning, thank you.
Holiday Camp may be done for now, but here's to the next one when the long end of year holidays come round!

⚽ FUTURE HOPE FOOTBALL ACADEMY
Sunday was supposed to be a bit of a walk in the park!
The team talk was sharp, the tactics were laid out on the board, and the boys sat full of hope and confidence, ready to take on the day. Sometimes though, life has a funny way of tripping you up when you least expect it, and today's final score told that story loud and clear.
Mpatempate 1 - 0 Future Academy
As Head Coach Sammy put it, simply and honestly: "Bad day at the office."
Football, like life, isn't always about the scoreline. It's about how you respond. These boys will be back on the training pitch, back around the tactics board, and back with that same hope and confidence next time out. That's the Future Hope way.
Onwards. 💛💚

Maybe a strange combination but it seems to work! When you're not exercising your legs, you sit down and exercise your brain - our Holiday Camp kids proving that footballers make sharp chess players too. "

It's a tough call when you're playing in bare feet and the opposition wears boots! 👟
So definitely not a level playing field!!
But the girls played well, never gave up and went onto win one and lose one.
Future Hope Starlets 2–1 Mtomondoni Girls — a hard-fought win, with our keeper pulling off save after save before going down injured.
🔴 Tuungane Starlets 3–0 Future Hope Starlets — playing an outfield girl in goal (and up against boots vs. bare feet), our Starlets still fought to the final whistle.
Two results, one message: this team never stops fighting. Heal up fast, keeper — the squad's got your back. 🙌

Quick update on the girls journey! Off on the coach, and on the pitch... Waiting, with baited breath for the first blood to be drawn!
