The CBO targets to establish community tree nurseries, propagate wild and fruit plants and restore ecosystems. Mazingira ni Uhai, translated as 'Environment is Life', is a registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) with its headquarters and operations in Kilifi County, Coastal Kenya. The organization operates in the field of environmental conservation, with a focus on; Flora and Fauna research,
conservation of indigenous biodiversity, habitats, endangered species, ecosystems, and restoration activities. To achieve this, we survey for threats facing natural ecosystems in Kilifi, initiate habitat restoration activities, establish tree nurseries, and perform species-based recovery activities. Further, being a community-based organization, we are working with the local communities to promote nature-based sources of livelihood and promote citizen participation/awareness in conservation. We have partnered with private landowners, self-help groups, government institutions, and others such as Dryland Biodiversity Consultants to lead/facilitate activities in Kilifi. Achievements: We are actively involved in the conservation of the critically endangered African violets in Kilifi, have established a tree nursery, and conducted community-training sessions on environmental conservation. Challenges: We are challenged by limited availability of funds as most activities are voluntary. We welcome like-minded organizations to partner with us or support our projects.
