Today, the VI Agroforestry team had a deeply insightful end-year report meeting with the dedicated teachers leading our school kitchen gardening projects in Kilifi.These incredible educators are the engine driving sustainable change. They didn't just supervise projects, they inspired both students and their families to embrace practices that boost food security and climate change resilience.

THANK YOU NOTE

On behalf of the Camp Manager and the entire team at Kilifi Scouts Centre, I want to express our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the 171st Woodbadge Course.

To our volunteers, thank you for your tireless work. Some of you seemed to be in three places at once—proof that Scouts really do have hidden talents!

To the training team, your dedication, guidance and patience kept the course running smoothly. You handled every challenge with calm professionalism… even when participants asked questions that felt like a panel interview for a top job.

To our CEO and Chief Commissioner, thank you for your strong support and presence. Your leadership gave the course great strength and direction.

To the finance team, your steady hands carried us through. A few needs showed up that were definitely not in the original budget, but you helped calm situations, provided solutions and ensured the program never stalled. We appreciate you.

To our wonderful chefs, thank you for serving delicious meals for the facilitators. The participants cooked for themselves, and let’s just say… some discovered new talent, while others confirmed why hotel food is sometimes easier!

To the security team, thank you for keeping the camp safe. Your presence ensured the only things roaming freely were good vibes and the coastal wind.

To the media team, you captured the spirit and energy of the week, preserving these memories for years to come. Without you, many stories from this course would sound like exaggerated campfire tales!

And of course… a light moment for the Camp Manager. Even though many didn’t directly see his involvement, he was always the first person called whenever anything didn’t go well—whether it was weather, Wi-Fi, or someone’s sufuria that mysteriously disappeared. 😅 Thank you for absorbing the pressure with a smile and keeping everything moving.

To everyone who worked quietly in the background, your contributions were invaluable. Every small effort added to the success of this course.

Thank you all for your teamwork, laughter and commitment. The spirit of Scouting shone through each of you.

Day 7 of the 171st woodbadge training and we are back under the ancient baobab tree. Today marked the triumphant close of the 171st Woodbadge traning, and let's say we finished with a bang and a few epic dance moves. Our trainees lined up to receive their certificates presented by the Chief Commissioner, whose inspiring remarks reminded our team why they dedicated a week to this journey.A massive thank you to the Chief Guest, the Regional Director of Education for the Coast Region, for officially closing the training. But the most memorable part? After all the formal pomp and circumstances, the trainers busted out the dance floor surprise. Proof that even Woodbadge staff can get down after a long week of inspection and instructions. Congratulations.

Can our beautiful, custom-crafted backpacks carry things? Today our patrols packed their essentials: food, personal items, and personal prayer that the shoulder straps wouldn't detach. The trainers gave the team the final marching orders which mostly involved telling them not to rely too heavily on the emergency snack dispenser. Our patrols have officially been flagged off and the trek begins. May the odds be ever in favor of their paracord creations.

Today our trainees transitioned from trainees to trail engineers. They crafted their own custom gears for tomorrow's trek. Some of the prototypes looked more like Rube Goldberb machines than practical gears. If you see a group of scouters using ladle as a compass, that's probably our trainees. Wish our team luck!

The 171st Woodbadge training crew starting their morning assembly with singing, dancing and a whole lot of spirit. Best way to start the day. This is what leadership development looks like. Shout out to our awesome patrols.

Day 4 of 171st woodbadge started with a very intense morning inspection before everyone busted out a few moves to salute the flag. But the real workout? The classes! Trainers were spitting fire and trainees were furiously taking notes like it was the final exams for "How to adult better". The afternoon brought the inevitable group discussions. Trainees argued nicely and managed to turn it all into presentations.

Day 3 of 171ST Woodbadge II training. Trainees are dissecting leadership theories and mastering patrol system dynamics. Facilitators are dispensing knowledge zealously. Notebooks are filling rapidly and ideas are being exchanged with purpose. Every discussion is a step closer to earning the beads.
