We had the privilege to participate in a two-day workshop facilitated by the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, in partnership with UN Women and the University of Nairobi.
The training convened CSOs and private sector actors to sensitize them on the National Policy on Women’s Economic Empowerment (NPWEE) and the National Care Policy.
The training addresses the structural gender disparities highlighted in the 2024 Economic Survey, which reveals that women remain concentrated in low-productivity sectors like retail and social work, while men dominate high-growth industries. To counter this, the NPWEE aims to create a conducive policy environment that promotes women’s access to and utilization of economic resources, ensuring their active participation in all spheres of the economy for inclusive development.
We advocate for social justice by pushing for adequate budget allocations for gender equality programmes. The initiative seeks to reduce vulnerabilities and disparities that impede women’s economic empowerment, ensuring that resources and opportunities are distributed equitably to uplift marginalized groups.
By equipping CSOs and private sector actors with knowledge on the women in leadership roadmap, the training promotes the inclusion of young women in economic leadership. This focus ensures that the next generation of women have a voice in high-technology sectors and decision-making spaces, breaking cycles of exclusion and fostering sustainable development.
