Elong'o Afrika Initiatives

Elong'o Afrika Initiatives Elong’o Afrika Initiatives was established in 2020 to address critical issues that have long been ignored indigenous communities.

It's a Youth organization promoting youth employability, skills building, safe, healthy and environmental conservation through economic empowerment, advocacy and awareness creation

Through the collaborative efforts of Elongo Africa Initiatives and the Maasai Mara Youth Council, we successfully hosted a youth engagement forum that brought together young people and FORUMCIV to discuss issues that directly impact their lives and communities. The forum created a safe space for meaningful dialogue on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), conservation, and land rights. Young people shared their experiences, challenges, and ideas while collectively exploring practical solutions and pathways for positive change. When youth are given a platform to speak, listen, and lead, communities become stronger, more inclusive, and more resilient.
Together, we are building a future where young people are informed, empowered, and actively involved in shaping decisions that affect their lives and the landscapes they call home.

Telling Our Stories Through Beading

Restoration is not only about restoring the land—it is also about restoring livelihoods, culture, and opportunity. For generations, beadwork has been a cherished part of Maasai identity, carrying our stories, traditions, and heritage from one generation to the next. What was once practiced mainly as a leisure activity is now becoming a professional skill and a source of income for women.Today, we celebrate the graduation of women from our professional beadwork training program. Through every bead, they tell the stories of our land, preserve our culture, and create economic opportunities for their families.
When women thrive, communities thrive, culture is valued, heritage lives on.

How did indigenous women deal with mental health issues ?

13/05/2026

For generations, our elders have listened to the birds, the wind, and the land to understand seasons and climate change. Indigenous knowledge is not outdated it is wisdom rooted in nature and coexistence.
At Tales of Our Land and Elongo Afrika Initiatives, we believe the voices of elders and local communities matter in protecting our future.
The birds are speaking. Are we listening?

Today, we brought together youth from Ntulele area Transmara South in a powerful and open forum to openly discuss the challenges they face and explore practical, locally driven solutions.
We began with mental health advocacy, grounding the conversation in indigenous knowledge and traditional approaches to healing. This helped create a deeper understanding of how young people can stay rooted, focused, and better navigate life’s pressures and opportunities.

The discussion also expanded to key issues such as economic empowerment, advocacy, and the growing impact of climate change on livelihoods, conservation, and the wider community. By connecting experiences from home, community, and personal wellbeing, we gained a clearer picture of the realities young people are facing.

In collaboration with the Konema women, we fostered a shared space for dialogue, learning, and collective action. Together, we identified practical pathways for stronger youth inclusion and explored realistic, community-based approaches to economic empowerment.
This meaningful progress , understanding, and building solutions from within the grassroots communities.

Congratulations to all the riders who showed up and rode with purpose today 🚴‍♂️
191km is not a joke. This was strength, discipline, and commitment to something bigger than ourselves raising awareness on road safety and flood preparedness during a critical time. We saw young people coming together for a good cause for the community RoadSafetyfirst awareness.

Elongo Afrika Initiatives, we appreciate your partnership and celebrate you Njapit Mwaana for choosing to stand for life through your passion in riding. This is how change begins.
Life comes first. Safety always.

For generations, we have watched people act out our traditions giving the world wrong information about the indigenous communities.
Films have been made that don’t truly describe who we are.Books have been written, yet so much has been left out ,because our story has been told by others but not by us.

Tales of Our Land exists to restore that narrative, by identifying misinformation, restoring the truth , documenting and protecting the true identity of the indigenous communities.
Rooted in the grassroots of Maasai Mara landscape,Transmara South , in Narok County, Kenya.

We are documenting our culture, our land, and our way of life through authentic storytelling told by the people who live it every day. Not misrepresented but lived experiences

We are building a future where Indigenous knowledge is recognized, respected, and preserved . Through fundraising of a community-led research hub for Indigenous science. A space where lived experience, traditional wisdom, and the connection between the land ,people, livestock, and wildlife is valued as knowledge systems.

We are now opening our doors to partners, collaborators, and supporters who believe in doing things differently who understand that real impact begins with listening to communities and investing in their voice.

If this speaks to you, walk with us

Because when we tell our own stories, we don’t just correct the past we define the future.

Elong'o Afrika Initiatives under the Tales of our land project participated in the NELD East Africa Regional Learning Exchange, bringing together grassroots organizations from Kenya, Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan.

The exchange created a valuable space to learn from each other’s experiences, share project films, and discuss the work being implemented in our different communities.

Through these discussions, we gained important insights on how grassroots organizations are addressing Non-Economic Loss and Damage (NELD) and strengthening community resilience. For the Tales of our land project, two key areas stood out:
herbal medicine and cultural preservation.

These conversations helped us better understand how protecting indigenous knowledge can support biodiversity and community resilience.

These themes attracted strong interest from other grantees, and some expressed interest in visiting our project to learn more.

We truly appreciate the support of Climate Justice Resilience Fund (CJRF) through the South South North and Non-Economic loss and Damage ( NELD ) program for believing in and supporting grassroots efforts to restore, document, and protect indigenous knowledge that sustains both communities and nature.
