Closing out October with impact!
✨ WoPCAA collaborated with the National Gender Equality Commission (NGEC) to host "Lead the Change: Youth Voices Against GBV and Femicide" in Korogocho, Nairobi. We engaged youth and decision-makers in critical conversations around gender-based violence and its connection to climate change.

WoPCAA recognizes that climate change disproportionately affects women, increasing their vulnerability. We equip women with the resources and skills to build resilience. NGEC promotes gender equality and fights discrimination.

Yesterday, WOPCAA launched a transformative door-to-door awareness campaign focused on educating women about waterborne diseases and gender-based violence (GBV). In collaboration with dedicated Community Health Practitioners, we visited 50 homes, sharing knowledge, distributing essential resources like Oral Rehydration Salts and Aquatabs, and empowering women to protect their health and wellbeing.

𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞

Last week, we held an impactful Financial Literacy and Business Management Training in Mathare, where women business owners, whose livelihoods were heavily affected by the floods earlier this year, gained essential skills to rebuild and thrive.

Led by Susan Kimani of Horizon View Consulting, the women received invaluable insights on financial management and how to better plan and structure their businesses by mapping out their key customers, resources, and revenue streams.

The training equipped them with practical tools to manage their finances, plan for the future, and position their businesses for sustainable growth despite the challenges they face. We are incredibly proud of these women and their commitment to their businesses and communities. Together, we are proving that 𝐌𝐚𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐨 𝐬𝐢𝐨 𝐌𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐨, 𝐌𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐤𝐞 𝐧𝐢 𝐌𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢.

𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗞𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮! 🌟

At our recent event in Kibera, we had some truly eye-opening conversations about the daily financial struggles and triumphs of women entrepreneurs living in informal settlements. What we heard was both inspiring and challenging, and it showed us how much impact we can make when we come together to help. Here's what we discovered:

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀
• 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀: Many women in Kibera run small businesses like kiosks, tailoring shops, and street vending, often starting with as little as KES 1,000!
• 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: Despite facing significant hurdles such as limited access to loans and business knowledge, these women show incredible strength. But they still need more support to thrive.
• 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: What’s needed now are stronger systems to help with financial literacy, business management, and more opportunities for empowerment.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲:
1. 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: We invite microfinance institutions and banks to provide accessible business loans tailored for these entrepreneurs.
2. 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝘀: Partner with us to deliver training sessions focusing on financial literacy, business planning, and management skills.
3. 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Collaborate on local initiatives, such as recycling or cooperative projects, that can serve as new income streams.
4. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀: Join us in bolstering community organizations dedicated to empowering women in business and nurturing their entrepreneurial spirit.

We are thrilled to share that we recently held a successful stakeholders engagement meeting to introduce our new program focused on empowering women and building resilience for those affected by the recent floods in Mathare.

Through this program, we aim to:
• ⁠𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 with training in financial and business management, helping them rebuild and thrive.
• 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 of environmental and social risks, fostering preparedness.
• 𝗘𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗚𝗕𝗩) and establishing clear referral systems for safe and effective reporting.
• 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀, ensuring healthier and safer communities.

We’re also working to connect these women with microfinance institutions to support the revival of their businesses and help them regain economic independence. We're collaborating with like-minded organizations in the area to ensure a profound and positive impact on the community's most vulnerable members.
