It’s the first week of the month and our team gathered for our monthly staff meeting. Some arrived early, some fashionably later, but everyone made it.

From the soccer field to the art gallery, from our women’s and girls’ programs to sponsorship, all five programs were in one space. We caught up, shared our wins, and brainstormed solutions to challenges.

Most importantly, we are excited for another month of showing up for our community.

A big thank you to friend of Uweza, Jay, who completed the Manchester Half Marathon this weekend in support of our work with young people in Kenya.

Not only did he run 21 km, he also set up a fundraising page and is currently at 71% of his goal of raising €300.

Please chip in if you can, use this link: https://www.justgiving.com/page/jayaprakash-patil?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=FB.

And thank you so much, Jay, for your support!

Some of our Golden Girls got their hands on the shelves of Hazina House, our recently opened library, this week and they were so excited.

Watching them pick their books, settle in and just get lost is a kind of happiness that is hard to put into words. A reading culture starts young and we are so glad to be part of building it.

We are still stocking up so if you have children’s books to donate we would love to hear from you.

Thank you to for making our library possible!

18 years ago, we launched our very first program, .

Since then, it has become our most popular program among the community we serve. Thousands of young people have passed through the academy, and Uweza players have gone on to become coaches, referees, professional footballers, entrepreneurs, and professionals in fields like banking and law.

Today, we’re still building the next generation through football.

Happy World Football Day! ⚽

Meet the faces behind the work you see on our timeline every day!
We asked our staff what moves them in their work and here’s what they said.

Every week we open the doors at our Art Gallery for free art classes for kids from 2 to 4pm and what happens in this space always means more than we expect. Seeing kids walk in for the first time and leave already talking about coming back says everything. This is what Uweza is for and we are glad we get to show up for them every Saturday.

As we prepare for an upcoming exhibition of photos taken by the women in our Bright Futures program, we are looking back at the mindfulness photography workshop we hosted at our art gallery in February and March.

We asked some of the participants to share their highlight from the workshop and here is what they said.
