Over the past two weeks, we’ve started running more frequent life skills talks with the Uweza Soccer Academy men’s and women’s teams.

We asked players what they needed most beyond training and they told us they wanted more space to talk through what they’re facing on and off the field.

Starting next month, these circles will become a regular part of our program calendar. We are working to invest in the whole player and not just their game.

On this World Photography Day, we want to celebrate the women and girls who have taken part in our photography workshops. Day by day, they’re gaining confidence behind the lens and letting us see their world through their eyes.

Every photo is a small window into how they see things. Their homes, their friends, their everyday moments, told the way they want to tell them.

Over the weekend, we brought together our Sponsorship students from high school and university, plus a few of our alumni, for our first outing together. There were games, group discussions and time for the students to sit with themselves and think through their own goals, challenges and what they want for their future.

We have walked with most of these students since they were young, and it means a lot to see how far they have come.

This is just the start, and we are looking forward to the next gathering.

This week our Golden Girls welcomed girls from NANE EXPERIENCE CBO for a special reading of our book, Kibera’s Unexpected Treasure, led by illustrator and Uweza artist, Murrel. The girls also got to explore our Hazina House Library.

The book gives children from Kibera and similar communities a chance to see their own lives and environment reflected positively in literature, and encourages them to dream big and find hidden gems in their everyday surroundings.

Thank you NANE EXPERIENCE CBO for joining us. We look forward to hosting many more sessions like this one.

Today we’re celebrating this year’s Youth Day by letting young people from our programs speak for themselves.

They are all proof of what happens when youth are given the chance to discover their talents and the support to turn them into a path forward.

The young mothers of our Bright Futures program recently took part in a Tree of Strength activity. They mapped the roots that hold them steady and the branches they’re reaching toward.

For young women balancing so much, naming their own strengths and ambitions is powerful. It’s a small act that builds confidence and pushes them toward the changes they want to see in their lives.
