What makes a friendship meaningful?

Is it simply having someone to talk to—or is it about belonging, supporting one another and growing together? 🤝

In today's Reel, our friends from Japan 🇯🇵 share one of the things that stood out to them during their experience in Kenya:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. 🇰🇪

Here, friendships can extend beyond two individuals.

A neighbour can become family.

A friend can introduce you to another friend.

People come together to celebrate, support one another, solve problems and share what they have.

And at the heart of this is a powerful African principle:

𝗨𝗕𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗨 — “𝗜 𝗔𝗠 𝗕𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗪𝗘 𝗔𝗥𝗘.” 🌍

There is value in knowing that you don't have to navigate life alone.

Our Japanese visitors reflected on how people make connections, build friendships and find value through these community relationships.

But there is another beautiful side to the story:

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘂𝘀.

Perhaps what feels ordinary to us—greeting a neighbour, sharing a meal, helping someone, introducing a friend, gathering as a community—is actually something very powerful.

🇯🇵 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁?

A conversation in Nairobi can sometimes be the beginning of a much bigger journey.

This week, our office welcomed Masako Takagi and Kame from Japan 🇯🇵—two friends who took the time to come closer, learn about Saidika's work and understand the communities behind our mission.

Rather than beginning with “What can we do together, their visit gave us an opportunity to begin with something equally important:

𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻. 𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻. 𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

We shared experiences, exchanged ideas and explored areas where our interests could connect.

For a community organization like Saidika, these moments are important.

Our work is rooted in local communities, but many of the challenges communities face—education, livelihoods, climate change, youth opportunities and social inclusion—do not stop at national borders.

That is why we value relationships that allow us to learn from one another.

𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 + 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 = 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

We don't know yet where this relationship will lead—and perhaps that's what makes it exciting.

What we know is that a meaningful partnership starts with people willing to show up, listen and explore what is possible together.

To Masako Takagi and Kame, thank you for making the journey to Saidika and for spending time with our team.

🌍 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 | 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗛𝗨𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗔𝗡 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗨𝗚𝗘𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡

As we concluded 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 of our reflection on the progress of the 2023 Global Refugee Forum commitments and Kenya’s Shirika Plan, we took time to look beyond policies and ask what is happening on the ground.

Over the two days, we explored different approaches, reviewed progress and discussed what the transition from a 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 should look like.

One important reflection stood out:

🏙️ 𝗨𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗨𝗚𝗘𝗘𝗦 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗕𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡.

Refugees living in urban communities experience unique challenges around education and adult learning, livelihoods, documentation, GBV protection, healthcare, housing, digital access and social inclusion.

If we are serious about inclusion, their voices, experiences and solutions must inform the implementation process.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧?

Our conclusion was not simply to identify challenges, but to develop a practical 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡 that will help us:

🔹 Identify the remaining challenges facing refugees and host communities.

🔹 Understand what has worked, what needs improvement and where implementation gaps remain.

🔹 Co-create solutions with refugees, host communities, government, civil society and other stakeholders.

🔹 Strengthen the participation of urban refugees in decisions that affect their lives.

🔹 Develop and apply 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆—using evidence, lived experiences, partnerships and strategic engagement to influence policy and implementation.

For Saidika Organization, the conversation does not end with the conclusion of a two-day session.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

🤝 From commitments to implementation.
From consultation to co-creation.
From humanitarian response to sustainable inclusion.

🌍 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 | 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

As Day Two of the inaugural GreenWorks 4 Africa Forum ( ) comes to a close, one message stands out for me:

𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵. 𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗳𝗶𝘅 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲.

The morning conversations on 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆, 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 challenged us to think about the systems that determine whether green ambitions can become real opportunities.

The afternoon then brought a different but connected perspective: 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲?

Partner-led sessions brought important conversations around:

What I found particularly valuable was the emphasis on 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼-𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Too often, development conversations stop at identifying challenges.

But the more important questions are:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝘁?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸?

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹?

For me, this is where the 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮 becomes much more than a climate conversation.

It becomes a conversation about 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀, 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

And most importantly, it becomes a question of who gets to participate in Africa's economic future.

🌱 𝗠𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘇𝘇𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

The real work begins when we take these conversations beyond the forum and turn them into 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.
𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆.
𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 | 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

A policy can look ambitious on paper and still make little difference in someone’s daily life.

That is why conversations on 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆, 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 at the 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝟰 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 ( #𝗚𝗪𝟰𝗔) matter beyond the conference room.

For us at 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, the bigger question is not simply:

“Do we have the right policies?”

It is:

“𝗗𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁?”

A green transition should be visible not only in national strategies, but also in:

🌱 𝗔 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝗯.
💡 𝗔 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁.

This is where 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.

We need to ask policymakers and stakeholders:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻—and 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱?

That means advocating for:

➡️ 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀

The second day of the inaugural 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝟰 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 opened with an important reminder: creating a green and inclusive future requires more than good ideas—it requires the systems, partnerships and decisions that can turn those ideas into lasting change.

Today’s conversations are taking a closer look at the 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 needed to support Africa’s transition towards a greener economy and workforce.

For us at 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, one question remains central:

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻?

The discussions are connecting policy with practical realities—including 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀, 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗧𝗩𝗘𝗧, 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲.

A particularly important milestone today is the inauguration of the 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗔𝗚𝗦𝗢 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮)—a step towards strengthening collaboration around the skills and opportunities required for Africa’s green transformation.

The commissioning of the 𝗠𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮’𝘀 𝗡𝗗𝗖𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗽 also highlights the importance of understanding the skills and workforce needed to turn climate commitments into practical action.

🌱 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

If we want an inclusive green economy, we must invest in people, equip them with relevant skills, open pathways to decent work and ensure that communities can participate in emerging opportunities.

Today at 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗡𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶, I joined an important conversation on advancing refugee rights through local, national, regional and global advocacy. 🌍

One question continues to stay with me:

“𝗜𝗳 𝘄𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻?”

Refugee rights cannot only be discussed in conference rooms.

We must listen to the people experiencing these challenges, understand the barriers they face, and create pathways for their voices to influence the decisions that affect their lives.

As community leaders and civil society, our responsibility is not simply to 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 — 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱.

Today, 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is proud to be part of two important conversations happening concurrently in Nairobi.

🌱 𝗔𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝟰 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮, our team is engaging in conversations around Africa’s green workforce, green skills, enterprise development and the systems needed to ensure that young people can meaningfully participate in the green economy.

🤝 𝗔𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹, 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀, another part of the Saidika team is participating in a serious discussion on the challenges and gaps affecting refugees and displaced communities.

These may appear to be two different conversations — but they are deeply connected.

Evidence from the UNHCR Africa Forum of Displaced Youth highlights critical challenges including:

These challenges remind us that 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

It must mean 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

It must mean 𝗮 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

It must mean 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀, 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

And as Africa moves toward a 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, displaced communities must not be left behind.
