Two weeks ago, our Ability Band (made up of persons with disabilities) had the privilege of leading worship at Nairobi Chapel Ngong Road. This is one of the things we continue to encourage churches to do: give persons with disabilities room to serve. Inclusion should not stop at providing a seat in church. Persons with disabilities have gifts, talents and a place in the life and ministry of the Church.

Our band continues to show what is possible when the Church gives persons with disabilities opportunities to serve. To other churches, we would love to walk this journey with you too:

1. You can invite The Ability Band to lead worship at your church
2. You can also invite Africa Ability Trust to train your pastors, leaders, ushers, ministry teams and congregation on disability inclusion.

In our previous post, we welcomed Mercy Kamwethya to Africa Ability Trust as our new Social Work & Community Inclusion Intern. We would like to share a little more about her.

Mercy is trained in Social Work and Community Development and brings experience in community engagement, psychosocial support, case documentation and working with individuals and families. As a person with visual impairment, she also brings her lived experience alongside her professional training.

During her internship, Mercy will work alongside our team in supporting Persons with Disabilities, caregivers and families, community outreach and our inclusion work. We look forward to seeing Mercy learn, contribute and use her skills during her time with us.

We are glad to welcome Mercy Kamwethya to Africa Ability Trust as our Social Work & Community Inclusion Intern.

Mercy, who is visually impaired, joins us through our partnership with Kilimanjaro Blind Trust Africa (KBTA) and their Young Graduate Employability Skills Training and Internship Program for persons with visual impairments.

She is Pictured with our Co-Executive Directors, Beryl and Gideon, as she begins her internship with us.We are glad to have you with Mercy and we look forward to walking this journey together.

Earlier today, our Ability Band was in rehearsal preparing to lead worship at Parklands Baptist Church both Sunday services. We are grateful for another opportunity for Persons with Disabilities to serve, lead and use their God-given gifts in the Church.

We will also have an exhibition stand where you can learn more about Africa Ability Trust, meet our team and check out our AMAI Collection.

Please pray for our ministry and for the team as we prepare to serve tomorrow. If you will be at Parklands Baptist Church, come by our stand and say hello. We would love to meet you.

A birthday is not complete without a song. Our Ability Band had a special birthday song for Author Margaret Kimani as she celebrated her day with us at our centre in Kibera.

Margaret is the mother of Princess Amani, Miss Little PWDs Kenya 2026, who is also a member of our Ability Band and had chosen to spend part of her birthday cooking with us, serving and sharing a meal with our band members, other persons with disabilities and caregivers. So it was only right that we also got a chance to celebrate her.

Author Margaret Kimani chose to celebrate her birthday with us at our Africa Ability Trust centre in Kibera.

Margaret is the mother of Princess Amani, Miss Little PWDs Kenya 2026, who is also part of our Ability Band. She spent the day cooking with us and serving a meal to members of the Ability Band, other persons with disabilities and their caregivers. We ate together and enjoyed a good day together.

Margaret is the founder of Nduta Angels Foundation, which works with children and young people through education, mentorship and community programs, including disability inclusion and environmental conservation. We are glad she chose to spend her birthday with our community.

Tomorrow, our Africa Ability Team will be at Nairobi Chapel Ngong Road joining the church for ENZI Sunday, Celebrating People of All Abilities.

Our band will be leading worship in both services at 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM, and we are grateful for the opportunity to worship together and celebrate the gifts of persons with disabilities in the Body of Christ.

We will also have an Africa Ability Trust exhibition stand outside the church, where you can meet our team, learn more about our work, and see some of what our community is doing.

If you’ll be at Nairobi Chapel tomorrow, 27th September, please come by and say hello. We would love to meet you!

We are proud to stand with Annah Kimeu, one of our volunteers at Africa Ability Trust, who has been nominated for Person Living with Disability (PLWD) of the Year at the Golden Voice East Africa Awards
