Comrade Otieno Ombok, the community representative who has been at the forefront of the Access to Information campaign against the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NUPEA), was arrested on Tuesday morning while making a solidarity court appearance.
Mr. Ombok is currently being held without any formal charge, and the reasons for his arrest remain unknown to his legal representatives and family.
This development comes less than 48 hours after a delegation led by Mr. Ombok met with the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) in Kisumu to push for accountability and transparency regarding NUPEA’s proposed nuclear energy project in Central Sakwa Ward, Siaya County.
