🎉 Celebrating a milestone at Kajiado Women Prison!
The latest cohort of the 3-month UFUNUO program has graduated and this time, something truly special happened.

👏 5 prison officers were trained and graduated alongside the women. Why does this matter? Because rehabilitation doesn’t happen in isolation. These officers are now better equipped to walk alongside the women on their journey to restoration, with dignity, understanding, and the right skills.

This is what systemic change looks like.

But we can’t stop here. We need you, partners, organizations, changemakers to come on board and sponsor a future UFUNUO cohort. Together, we can transform more lives, inside and outside the walls.

This Labour Day, we celebrate the dignity of work, but also challenge ourselves to expand who gets the opportunity to work. Across our communities, justice-impacted individuals are ready to rebuild, contribute, and thrive. What they need is a fair chance.

To employers: inclusion is not charity. It is smart, transformative leadership. By opening your doors to those seeking a second chance, you are not only restoring livelihoods but strengthening families, reducing recidivism, and building safer, more resilient communities.

Join us and Miss World Kenya as we bring hope, dignity, and smiles to the women and children at Meru Women Prison.

As part of the 2026 Beauty With a Purpose project, we continue raising awareness on the living conditions of incarcerated mothers and children below the age of 4 living in prison, while advocating for stronger support for daycare facilities within correctional institutions.

This is more than a visit. It is a call to action to recognize the humanity of mothers behind bars and ensure that every child, regardless of circumstance, has access to care, love, and dignity.

This coming Mother’s Day, let’s remember the mothers behind prison walls. Women whose love for their children remains strong despite separation and circumstance. Many of these mothers are navigating incarceration while carrying the pain of being away from their children, yet they still deserve dignity, hope, and compassion. We are calling on individuals and corporates to join us in making this day meaningful by donating essential items, care packages, and financial support to celebrate and uplift mothers in prison. Clean Start Africa was honored to join the Kenya Prison Service, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and fellow CSOs at the Kenya School of Government for a four-day external validation of draft policies and strategic documents critical to the implementation of the Maraga Taskforce Recommendations.

This important engagement marks a significant step toward strengthening justice sector reforms and ensuring that rehabilitation and reintegration remain at the center of correctional policy. Clean Start Africa continues to bring field-driven insights, grounded in lived experiences, to advocate for more inclusive, humane, and impactful systems.

Together, we move closer to a justice system that restores dignity and creates real second chances.
