On 31st December, Vijana Tubonge successfully held the Nilishe Charity Event, an annual initiative where we intentionally end the year by standing with the less fortunate and vulnerable in our communities. As Chief Director of Vijana Tubonge, it was deeply fulfilling to witness the impact of this year’s engagement.
2025 marked our 7th Nilishe celebration, and our central theme was sustainability, ensuring that our support goes beyond one day and creates lasting value.
This year, we implemented two key sustainable interventions:
1. Food Security through a Kitchen Garden
We established a kitchen garden by planting:
288 sukuma wiki (kale) seedlings
288 spinach seedlings
144 terere seedlings
Our Chief Agronomist and Director for Environment at Vijana Tubonge trained the children on best agronomic practices, including seedling care, basin irrigation, and proper planting techniques—equipping them with practical knowledge for long-term food production.
2. Security through Solar-Powered Lighting
To enhance safety and sustainability, we installed three 1000-watt solar-powered lamps, providing reliable lighting at night with no electricity costs or bills. This intervention ensures security while embracing clean, renewable energy.
To conclude the day, we shared a warm meal together and provided shopping support to the beneficiaries.
My sincere appreciation goes to everyone who supported this event through financial contributions and goods in kind. Over 70 young people participated, and the experience was truly impactful and beautiful.
Together, we continue to demonstrate that sustainable action, when driven by purpose, changes lives.
