Today, we joined 16 other Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) from across Kericho County for the Kericho Chapter Youth Serving Organizations (YSO) Forum, hosted by Voices for Justice Organization at their offices in Kipchimchim Ward, Chebisom Centre.

The forum brought together youth-serving organizations to strengthen collaboration and build a stronger, more coordinated platform for advancing the interests and priorities of young people across Kericho County.

Key areas of discussion included:

🔹 Strengthening the Youth Serving Organizations (YSO) Consortium and county chapter
🔹 Expanding and strengthening YSO membership
🔹 Identifying and prioritizing key issues affecting young people in Kericho County
🔹 Strengthening collaboration and collective action among youth-serving organizations
🔹 Laying a strong foundation for county-level youth engagement and advocacy

We are proud to share that we were unanimously elected as the Secretary of the Kericho County Youth Serving Organizations (YSO) Chapter.

We are honoured by the trust placed in us and look forward to working closely with fellow YSOs to strengthen youth-led initiatives, amplify young people's voices, and create meaningful opportunities for young people across Kericho County.

We sincerely appreciate for facilitating the engagement and strengthening the capacity of youth-serving organizations to establish and effectively run YSOs.

Congratulations to all the participating organizations, and here's to stronger collaboration and collective action!

On 27 August 2010, Kenya promulgated the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, replacing the 1969 Constitution and marking a historic turning point in our journey towards democracy, inclusion and accountable governance.

The Constitution strengthened human rights, reduced excessive executive power, established devolution, and guaranteed greater protection for women, minorities and marginalized communities.

16 years later, the question remains: Are we there yet?

Are our rights protected? Is public participation meaningful? Is devolution delivering? Are leaders accountable? And are we, as citizens, actively using the Constitution to demand better governance?

Katiba is not just a document, it is a promise we must all work to make a reality.

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hosting the Haki Ni Yetu team for a monitoring and learning visit as we continue implementing our project on Building Local Capacity for Stronger Community Response to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) among children in Kipchebor Ward, Ainamoi, Kericho County.

The visit gave us an opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made, share our experiences from the community, review our work, and discuss the lessons and challenges emerging along the way.

Through this project, we have been working with community members and different child protection stakeholders to strengthen community response to SGBV affecting children. We are also proud of our nine trained Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) who have been taking the conversation into the community, creating awareness and empowering community members with knowledge on preventing, identifying and responding to SGBV among children.

Monitoring and learning visits like these give us an opportunity to pause, reflect, learn and strengthen our work.

Together, we remain committed to building safer communities where children are protected, heard and supported.

We are excited to officially share that we are now a member of the Tunaweza 2.0 Kericho County Consortium, supported by Emerging Leaders Foundation–Africa (ELF-Africa).

On 11th–12th August 2026, we joined fellow consortium partners for a two-day capacity-strengthening engagement focused on self-leadership, values-based leadership, strategic planning, communication and advocacy, partnership building, sustainability and collective action.

The engagement was a great opportunity to learn, connect, reflect and strengthen our organisation as we prepare to work collectively for greater impact.

We are especially excited about being part of a growing community of organisations working towards stronger governance, civic participation, values-based leadership and sustainable impact.

We are grateful to ELF-Africa for this opportunity and look forward to the learning, partnerships and impact ahead.

Every informed community member is another step towards protecting a child.

With the support of the Project, we have reached another important milestone under the project, Building Local Capacity for Stronger Community Response to Minors' Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Ainamoi (Kipchebor Ward), Kericho County.

Our trained TOTs have now successfully completed structured community sensitization sessions, reaching 360 key community champions drawn from across Kipchebor Ward. These include Nyumba Kumi officials, village managers, women leaders, youth leaders, boda boda leaders, Jua Kali representatives, market leaders, chama leaders, religious leaders, law enforcement officers, and other influential community members.

Beyond increasing awareness on children's rights, child protection, and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) against children, these trainings have strengthened a community-led referral network. The 9 trained TOTs, who are based within the communities they serve, are now directly linked to these community champions, making it easier for concerns to be identified early, reported promptly, and referred to the appropriate service providers, including the Children's Department, the Police department , the Ministry of Health, and other partners.

The impact extends far beyond the 360 people trained. As respected leaders and influencers within their communities, they will continue sharing this knowledge through their groups, workplaces, places of worship, and daily interactions, helping accurate information reach even more families and strengthening community action to protect children.

This is an important milestone, but not the finish line. Our community barazas and broader sensitization activities are still ongoing as we continue working alongside communities to strengthen local capacity, promote timely reporting and referrals, and ensure every child grows up in a safer and more protective environment.

Together, we are building communities where every child is protected, heard, and able to enjoy their rights.

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the community response to Sexual Gender Based Violence against children in Ainamoi (Kipchebor Ward), Kericho County, Sparkle AGAIN Foundation has so far reached 300 key community members through structured community sensitization sessions led by our TOTs.

Those reached include village managers, Nyumba Kumi members, youth leaders, women leaders, leaders of women and men’s groups, church leaders, boda boda leaders, market vendors, law enforcement officers, and other key community members.

Through these sessions, community members are now better informed about children’s rights, child protection, and SGBV against children. They have also gained important knowledge on what to do when a child experiences abuse or violence, including the importance of taking a child to a health facility as soon as possible, ideally within 72 hours, and knowing where and how to report cases.

We have also created a direct link between the people we have trained and our TOTs, who are based within their respective communities. This means that when a case of child abuse, neglect, SGBV, or violation of a child’s rights occurs, community members know who to turn to and can directly report the case to the TOTs in their area.

The TOTs can then take the necessary next steps and connect the case to the relevant stakeholders and service providers we work with, ensuring that children and survivors can access the appropriate support and services.

The impact goes beyond the 300 people reached directly. These key community members are now able to share the knowledge they have gained with others, helping the information reach more families and community members through their groups, workplaces, places of worship, and daily interactions.

By reaching communities across different areas of Kipchebor Ward, including areas with a higher prevalence of child defilement, we are strengthening community awareness, referral pathways, and collective action to protect children.

Every person we reach is an opportunity to reach many more. Together, we are building stronger communities that are better equipped to protect children and respond when their rights are violated.

Under our project to strengthen the community response to SGBV against children in Kipchebor Ward, Kericho County, our TOTs are going beyond the usual spaces and reaching people from all walks of life.

We are engaging mamambogas in the markets, boda boda riders, and other community members to create awareness on children’s rights, child protection, SGBV prevention, reporting, and referral.

We believe that information shared with different groups can reach even more people through their daily interactions and networks. Every member of the community has a role to play in protecting children and creating a safe environment where every child can grow free from violence and abuse.

As part of our ongoing community sensitization in Kipchebor Ward, Kericho County, our TOTs are sharing important information on how communities can respond and support children who experience sexual violence.

If a child has been defiled, seek medical care at a health facility as soon as possible, ideally within 72 hours.

Early medical care is important because it allows the child to receive timely support and interventions that can help prevent HIV infection and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as prevent unwanted pregnancy where applicable.

Do not delay. Seek help. Protect the child. Report the case.

Under our project, “Building Local Capacity for Stronger Community Response to Minors’ Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Ainamoi (Kipchebor Ward), Kericho County,” our TOTs are continuing with community sensitization and engagement on children’s rights, child protection, and SGBV against children across different areas of the ward.

The engagements are placing a stronger focus on the informal settlements, where statistics indicate a high prevalence of defilement cases involving children. Through these sensitization sessions, our TOTs are creating awareness, strengthening knowledge on prevention and reporting, and encouraging communities to take action to protect children from violence and abuse.

Together, we can build safer communities where every child is protected, heard, and able to enjoy their rights.
