LARCOD impacts women and vulnerable children in the areas of:
1) protected income generation and reducing poverty for women
2) community access to quality health services, knowledge, and behavior change in HIV/AIDS; WASH; and SRHR. HIV prevalence in Homa Bay county is nearly 4.5 times higher than the national prevalence at 26.0%. HIV/AIDs in the area has had significant negative effect on both the
individuals who are infected, and their family members and community. Many children in this area are vulnerable and/or orphans, and women are disproportionately impacted by poverty, lack of access to livelihoods, disease, and lack of access to quality healthcare. LARCOD empowers youth and women to rise above poverty and work toward a brighter future and facilitates vulnerable Kenyan children to achieve an education. LARCOD's activities include: health education programs; access to healthcare; registered Village Savings, Loans, and Entrepreneur Women’s Groups, Gender-Based Violence and Psychosocial Support; Improved agriculture, Nutrition and Food Security; Sexual and Reproductive Health and Menstrual Hygiene Management for adolescent girls; Legal protection and Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Exploitation; and Education providing school fees, uniforms and supplies for orphans and vulnerable children.
