It has been a month since we wrapped up the Suba South Mentorship Program, and the ripple effects are still showing up.

One of our mentors shared a story from a school where a Kiswahili teacher had been struggling without a clear sense of direction in the classroom. Since the sessions, that teacher has taken the mentorship approach and made it part of how they show up for their students every day.

Another story stayed with us. A student had been carrying deep insecurities about her body, insecurities that were made heavier by comments from people closest to her. After going through the sessions, she shared that she now feels settled in who she is. She said she has come to understand that she is so much more than her body size.

This is what sustained impact looks like not just in numbers, but in the quiet moments where a young person starts to see themselves differently.

It was not without its challenges; for instance, when we went to one of the schools, Ligongo Secondary School, there were only 2 students out of the entire population because they had been sent home for fees. Most of them come from households without any financial capabilities to help them secure their education.

The teachers, however, frustrated by the circumstances, stayed and waited for the students to show up.

We surely hadn't anticipated this, but every challenge taught us something that will make the next phase stronger. Growth is not just for students and teachers; it is for us too.
