Today, I celebrated another milestone in my sobriety journey with a successful 5KM walk around the beautiful and scenic Lake Simbi Nyaima. My sincere gratitude goes to my Family, the Fanuel Owuor and everyone who joined us physically and those who sent messages of support and goodwill.

The walk was a reminder that recovery is possible and reinforced my commitment to helping transform the lives of at least five individuals struggling with alcohol addiction through the work of Tumaini Action CBO.

We also had the opportunity to visit Bwoga A Bwoga's Smart Agriculture Initiative and Cultural & Heritage Centre, where we explored opportunities for collaboration aimed at promoting sustainable livelihoods, social enterprise, tourism, environmental conservation, and community empowerment in Kendu Bay.

This activity also serves as a build-up to the upcoming Dignity Half Marathon Edition 2, as we continue using sports, partnerships, and community action to inspire positive change.

From recovery to purpose. From purpose to impact. The journey continues.

Tumaini Action CBO is honored to play a key role in the planning and commemoration of the Day of the African Child 2026 celebrations in Homa Bay County.

As an organization committed to advancing children's rights, education, health, mentorship, and community empowerment, we join stakeholders across the county and the continent in advocating for a better future for every child.

The 2026 Day of the African Child theme is:

"Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa." This theme highlights the urgent need to guarantee that every child has access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation facilities, and proper hygiene services as a fundamental right and a prerequisite for good health, dignity, education, and development.

As we approach the celebrations on 16th June, Tumaini Action CBO remains committed to working with government agencies, development partners, schools, parents, and communities to create a safe, healthy, and enabling environment where children can thrive and realize their full potential.

Together, let us champion the rights and welfare of every child.

On 2nd June 2026, Tumaini Action CBO participated in a capacity building training for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from Rachuonyo North Sub-County on Digital Literacy, Fact-Checking, Communication Manipulation, Digital Citizenship, and Community Responsibility.

I was honored to facilitate the training, which focused on helping participants understand and respond to the growing challenges of misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation in today's digital environment. The session equipped participants with practical skills to verify information, identify misleading content, engage responsibly on social media, and contribute positively to their communities as informed digital citizens.

As access to digital platforms continues to expand, empowering PWDs with digital literacy skills is critical in ensuring their meaningful participation in civic, social, and economic development.

Tumaini Action CBO appreciates Inuka Community Development Network for sponsoring this important training and for their continued commitment to promoting digital inclusion, responsible online engagement, and community empowerment.

Celebrating 5 Years of Sobriety Through Community Impact

Tumaini Action CBO CEO, David Slaid, marked his fifth year of sobriety by undertaking a series of meaningful community activities. As a symbol of resilience, determination, and victory over alcoholism, he personally planted five trees, each representing a year of his sobriety journey.

During the exercise, he also took time to engage with community members, sharing messages of hope, encouragement, and the importance of making positive life choices. The tree-planting initiative not only contributed to environmental conservation but also served as a powerful reminder that recovery is possible and that every milestone achieved can inspire others to pursue a healthier and more productive future.

This celebration reflects Tumaini Action CBO's commitment to transforming lives, promoting wellness, and creating lasting positive change within the community.

Eighty one years ago, at the Yalta Conference, President Franklin D. Roosevelt championed a vision of a peaceful world where conflicts would be resolved through dialogue rather than violence. Sadly, he passed away just weeks later, leaving future generations to carry forward that dream.

Today, as Kenya gradually approaches the 2027 General Election, we are reminded that peace is not achieved by the absence of differences, but by the willingness to engage one another with respect, tolerance, and understanding.

At Tumaini Action CBO, we believe that elections should be a celebration of democracy, not a source of division. Through our conflict resolution, peacebuilding, civic education, and youth engagement programs, we are committed to promoting peaceful coexistence, responsible leadership, and constructive dialogue within our communities.

Political seasons will come and go, but our shared identity as Kenyans remains. Let us reject violence, hate speech, and misinformation, and instead choose unity, dialogue, and mutual respect.

The future of Kenya depends not only on those we elect, but also on how we treat one another before, during, and after elections.

Celebrating 5 Years of Sobriety! πŸŽ‰

Today, we proudly celebrate a remarkable milestone as our CEO, David Slaid, marks 5 years of sobriety.

This journey has been one of courage, resilience, determination, and victory. Through commitment and perseverance, David has demonstrated that recovery is possible and that every day of sobriety is a step toward a brighter future.

To commemorate this special achievement, he has lined up several meaningful activities centered around the number 5:

🌳 Planting 5 trees to symbolize growth, renewal, and hope.

🀝 Reaching out to 5 individuals struggling with alcoholism to offer encouragement, support, and inspiration.

πŸƒ Running 5 kilometers as a testament to strength, discipline, and healthy living.

🚢 Walking 5 kilometers with 5 people to promote community, accountability, and wellness.

As we celebrate this milestone, we also celebrate the countless lives that continue to be transformed through recovery, support, and second chances.

Congratulations, David Slaid, on 5 years of sobriety! Your journey is a powerful reminder that recovery is not just about overcoming addictionβ€”it's about reclaiming purpose, inspiring others, and creating lasting positive change.
