I believe, like the Bible says in Matthew 18:6 and Mark 9:42, that harming children is an immense evil, and it should be met with the strongest justice. I don't take a stance lightly, but I do believe that protecting children is a sacred duty, and God’s word is clear on the severity of harming them!

SAD MORNING 💔

Deepest condolences to the parents, families, friends, and the entire Utumishi Girls Academy community following the tragic fire outbreak at one of the dormitories in Gilgil around 3am this morning.

It is heartbreaking to learn that 10 students are feared dead while several others were injured. May God grant strength, comfort, and healing to all affected during this painful moment.

May the departed souls rest in eternal peace.

Recent incidents of child defilement and killing 😭😭😭😭are heartbreaking and unacceptable, reflecting serious gaps in protection systems and the urgent need for stronger collective action. Every child has the right to safety, dignity, and life, and such violations demand immediate attention from families, communities, and authorities to ensure that children are protected from harm and that justice is served without delay.

To address and prevent these atrocities, there must be strengthened child protection mechanisms, timely reporting and investigation of abuse cases, and strict prosecution of offenders to deter future crimes. In addition, communities should be empowered through awareness on child safety, schools and caregivers should maintain safe environments and open communication with children, and survivors and affected families should receive comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and legal support to aid healing and recovery.

Kilifi gender and inclusion at kimbilio rescue center training on safehouse management and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) was conducted for staff from Kilifi County Government to strengthen their capacity in providing survivor-centered, inclusive, and professional services within safehouse facilities. The training focused on gender-responsive approaches, protection principles, confidentiality, case management, safeguarding measures, referral pathways, and adherence to established SOPs for effective safehouse operations. Participants were equipped with practical skills on handling vulnerable groups, including women, children, persons with disabilities, and survivors of gender-based violence, while emphasizing dignity, non-discrimination, accountability, and coordinated service delivery. The session also promoted teamwork, ethical conduct, and compliance with county and national protection standards to enhance the quality and safety of services offered in safehouses across Kilifi County.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a significant concern in Kilifi, affecting many individuals who often face barriers such as stigma, fear, and lack of awareness that prevent them from seeking help. Legal aid services play a vital role by providing free legal assistance to survivors, including legal advice, support in reporting cases, help in obtaining protection orders, and court representation where necessary. These services also educate survivors about their rights under laws such as the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act and the Sexual Offences Act. In addition, legal aid providers collaborate with police, healthcare facilities, and community organizations to ensure survivors receive comprehensive support, including medical and psychosocial care, while outreach programs and legal clinics help raise awareness and encourage reporting. Despite these efforts, challenges like limited resources, cultural stigma, and low awareness persist, highlighting the need for stronger support systems; overall, GBV legal aid in Kilifi is essential in promoting justice, protecting survivors, and fostering a safer community.
