World Humanitarian Day 2026 | Protect Humanity. Protect Those Who Serve.

Today, Ethel Foundation For The Aged (EFA) joins the global community in marking World Humanitarian Day.

Humanitarian action is ultimately about one thing: protecting human dignity when people are most vulnerable.

For older persons, crises can be especially devastating. Floods, displacement, poverty, food insecurity, disease and loss of livelihoods can quickly turn everyday vulnerability into a humanitarian emergency.

At EFA, we believe that older persons must not be forgotten in humanitarian response. They deserve access to food, healthcare, protection, shelter, dignity and the opportunity to participate in decisions affecting their lives.

We also recognise the humanitarian workers, volunteers, caregivers, community leaders and local organisations who continue to stand with communities during difficult times.

This year's global campaign reminds us that concern alone is not enough. Action, protection and accountability matter.

As we mark World Humanitarian Day, EFA calls for:

• Humanitarian responses that deliberately include older persons
• Protection of civilians and humanitarian workers
• Stronger support for local and community-based responders
• Greater investment in preparedness and resilience
• Humanitarian assistance that preserves dignity, not dependency
• Accountability for those who obstruct or attack humanitarian action

Every person matters. Every life has dignity. No older person should be left behind in a crisis.

Let us by turning compassion into meaningful action.

A Celebration of Dignity, Community & Belonging.

What a beautiful reminder that older persons deserve to be seen, heard, valued and celebrated.

Our 2026 celebration of the Day of the Older Persons and Grandparents brought together more than 1,300 people in a powerful gathering centred on dignity, faith, community and the wellbeing of older persons. Despite the larger-than-expected turnout, the change of venue enabled us to welcome and celebrate this remarkable community together.

Beyond the numbers were the smiles, conversations, prayers and moments of connection that reminded us of something important: ageing should never mean being forgotten.

At Ethel Foundation For The Aged, we are also taking the lessons from this experience forward. We are committed to strengthening how we engage older persons, caregivers, volunteers and communities while building programmes that promote sustainable livelihoods and greater independence.

We are particularly encouraged by our emerging collaboration with Joot Takatifu from Our Lady of Perpertual Help Ahero Parish, through which we look forward to virtual knowledge exchange and capacity building focused on strengthening sustainable programmes for older persons.

Together, we can build communities where older persons are not only cared for, but respected, included and empowered to live with dignity.

Celebration of World Day for Grandparents and the eldrerly, 2026

Preparing Hearts to Serve!

Today was a special day as we trained amazing youth volunteers who will support tomorrow's World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly celebration at Ahero Catholic Church.

Our volunteers learned much more than event coordination—they learned what it truly means to serve with love, patience, respect, and compassion.

Some of the areas we explored together, included:
1. How to welcome and assist older persons with dignity.
2. Ethical Registration of participants and efficient guidance of the guests.
3. Supporting hospitality and food distribution.
4. Capturing memorable moments through photography and videography.
5. Coordinating of vehicle and ensuring smooth movement of people
6. Promoting safety and responding calmly to challenges.
7. Communicating with kindness and empathy.

Every smile, every helping hand, and every act of kindness will make tomorrow's celebration more meaningful for our cherished older persons and grandparents.

A heartfelt thank you to every volunteer for stepping forward to serve. You are helping to build stronger connections between generations and reminding our older persons that they are seen, valued, and never forgotten.

We look forward to celebrating together under this year's theme:
