The wait is almost over!

Today, we hosted the orientation for our learners joining the Power Learn Project (PLP) digital skills program. We are excited and grateful for the great turnout, which shows the learners’ readiness to begin this journey.

We appreciate PLP for bringing this opportunity to Turkana and refugee communities to equip young people with digital and employability skills.

Environmental Learning for Children in Kakuma

Today, we resumed our children’s environmental classes at Hope Community Hub in Kakuma. We introduced the children to climate change awareness, environmental protection, and sustainable agriculture practices.

The children were happy to be back and excited to learn. ❤️

Our classes go beyond the environment. We also focus on emotional support, innovation, leadership, peace-building, teamwork, and integrity to help children grow with confidence and become responsible members of their community.

Through practical learning, we want children to understand how they can care for the environment and respond to challenges such as climate change and water scarcity in Kakuma.

We sincerely appreciate our well-wishers, volunteers, parents, and everyone supporting this initiative. Your support is helping create a safe space where children can learn, explore, and develop useful skills.

We are proud to celebrate our CEO, Andrea Malilo, for representing Hope for Refugee Life at the Migrants and Refugees Conference.

During the conference, Andrea joined scholars, educators, faith leaders, and advocates in meaningful discussions on the future of refugee and migrant protection. He emphasized that while many policies exist to protect refugees and migrants, their true impact depends on effective implementation and action on the ground.

Andrea also advocated for greater access to higher education and decent employment opportunities for refugee and migrant youth, highlighting that education and livelihoods are essential pathways to dignity, self-reliance, and lasting solutions.

💻 Seeing these young people learn and grow fills us with hope.

What started as a simple idea—to provide refugee youth and school leavers in Kakuma with digital skills, mentorship, and leadership training—is becoming a reality. Every session reminds us that young people are eager to learn, full of potential, and ready to build a better future when given the opportunity.

Many students walk long distances to attend our classes, driven by determination and a desire to gain skills that can open doors to education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

However, challenges remain. We are working to increase girls' participation and ensure no one is left behind. We also face a shortage of computers, with some students sharing one device during training.

Despite these obstacles, their commitment inspires us every day. They continue to learn, grow, and dream big.

We welcome partnerships and support from kind-hearted individuals, organizations, and friends who believe in empowering refugee youth through education, digital skills, and leadership development.

Together, we can create more opportunities and transform more lives.

This is very crucial for waste management while also creating opportunities for our women. By turning waste into livestock feed through Black Soldier Fly farming, women can generate income, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to a cleaner environment.
Black Soldier Fly farming is a sustainable solution that transforms food waste into valuable resources, including livestock feed and organic fertilizer. By empowering women with these skills, we can promote economic independence, environmental conservation, and community resilience.

Turkana County and the Kakuma Refugee Camp are often defined by their hardships extreme climate conditions, poverty, and limited resources. But if you look closer, you’ll find a completely different story.

You’ll find a vibrant, untapped creative economy powered by the sheer resilience of women and youth.

At Hope for Refugee Life, we recently conducted research to understand why these incredible talents are being left behind. What we found was eye-opening: while women and youth are the backbone of hands-on skills here producing stunning beadwork, crochet, textiles, and basketry they are locked out of the opportunities they deserve. They are producing beautiful, high-quality items in volume, but because they lack access to wider markets, their products end up sitting in saturated local markets for pennies.

They don't need charity. They need market access.
