Inspire for Change-CBO is a legally registered refugee-led community-based organization in Kenya with registration number DSD/23/124/02/156207, established in June 2023 in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Turkana West Sub-County, Kenya. The organization was formed by refugee youth in response to limited access to tertiary education opportunities, limited access to inclusive and sustainable livelihood opportun

ities, unsustainable environmental practices and low digital literacy levels. Inspire for Change-CBO aims to address these gaps by empowering refugee youth between the ages of 18-35 and the host community through education, livelihood, environmental conservation and digital literacy. Inspire for Change-CBO is physically located in Kakuma 3 Zone 1 Block 2. Mission

Inspire for Change CBO congratulates our Managing Director, Mohamed Anur, on the successful completion of his Master's in International Relations following the defense of his thesis on the protection of civilians under international humanitarian law in the Sudan conflict.
This achievement reflects his dedication, academic excellence, and commitment to peace, justice, and humanitarian principles. We are proud of his leadership and wish him continued success as he advances positive change in our communities and beyond.

From Aid Dependence to Self-Reliance: Empowering Entrepreneurs in Kakuma and Kalobeyei.

For many years, thousands of refugees in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement have relied heavily on humanitarian assistance from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, World Food Programme, and other partners. However, recent funding shortages and the introduction of Differentiated Assistance (DA) have made life increasingly difficult for many families, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable livelihood solutions (KENYA, 2026).

We at Inspire for Change CBO believe that change is more than just humanitarian aid; it's about empowering individuals with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to create their own futures. Entrepreneurship, climate smart agriculture, vocational skills and financial inclusion are strong pathways to dignity, resilience and self-reliance. This programme is not just about business skills, it's about investing in hope, resilience and economic change. We are supporting family income through the strengthening of local entrepreneurs, job creation, diminishing the need to rely on assistance and improving local economies.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Cohere for believing in refugee-led organizations and supporting locally driven solutions that create lasting impact. They have been committed to the principle of “localisation” and this approach shows that supporting community development processes is one of the best ways to build sustainable change. Economic empowerment is a collaborative process. We at Inspire for Change CBO are delighted to announce the official launch of our five-month Entrepreneurship Training and Mentorship Programme for Small-Scale Businesses in Kakuma under our Livelihood Programme.
This initiative is designed to equip refugees and the host community with practical entrepreneurial skills that will strengthen their businesses and improve their economic resilience. Throughout the programme, participants will receive hands-on training in:
• Financial literacy and bookkeeping
• Marketing products and services
• Accessing and mobilising business capital
• Business registration and regulatory compliance to avoid tax-related penalties
• Receive one-on-one mentorship with immediate feedback on the growth of their revenues
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Cohere, our partner, for supporting this transformative initiative. Their investment demonstrates a strong commitment to localization by partnering with refugee-led organizations that understand the real challenges and opportunities within their own communities. Such partnerships are essential for developing sustainable, community-driven solutions that leave no one behind.
We also thank the programme's curriculum designers, Badawi Abdalla and Musin K Musa, for their expertise and dedication in creating a practical, context-specific curriculum that directly addresses the needs of entrepreneurs in Kakuma and Kalobeyei.
We believe sustainable economic empowerment requires collective action. Congratulations to Cohort Three
Today, we welcomed Cohort Three into the Higher Education Support Project (HSEP). We are happy to begin this journey with our 20 new participants as they take an important step toward achieving their higher education goals.
During today's orientation, it was inspiring to see the participants' clear understanding of what they hope to gain from our training and mentorship. Their expectations were to acquire the skills, guidance, and knowledge needed to prepare competitive scholarship applications.
The orientation also provided an overview of the program structure, key activities, and the expectations for participants to ensure they make the most of the training and mentorship throughout the program.
A special highlight of the session was hearing from one of our Cohort Two participants, who recently secured the UNHCR–Duolingo+ scholarship. Reflecting on his experience, he shared:
"The HSEP helped me with the skills to write strong scholarship essays, and I am grateful to the team."
To our newest cohort, welcome once again, we look forward to supporting you throughout this journey and celebrating your future successes.

Construction Update | Inspire for Change CBO

We are pleased to share another important milestone in strengthening our Center. The digging of a new latrine is currently underway to improve sanitation and create a healthier environment for our staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries.

This essential facility will support the smooth running of our programs and ensure a safe, clean, and dignified space for everyone who visits our center.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting representatives from our partner, Cohere, at our office in Kakuma for a productive and forward-looking strategic discussion.
Our conversation focused on strengthening collaboration with Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs) and other NGOs, investing in sustainable income-generating initiatives to enhance organizational resilience, documenting our activities and impact, and diversifying our fundraising strategies to ensure long-term sustainability.
One main takeaway from the discussion was to stay focused on our mission, consistently deliver meaningful impact, and allow our work to speak for itself. As we continue to serve refugee communities and the host, we remain committed to building innovative, sustainable, and community-led solutions that create lasting change.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Cohere team, Kasi Joseph, Elizabeth Ngugi, and Jenny Basika, for their valuable insights and feedback during the discussion. 📢 Call for Volunteers: HESP Cohort Three
Inspire for Change CBO is pleased to announce an opportunity for alumni of the Higher Education Support Project (HESP) to serve as volunteers for HESP Cohort Three.
Following the successful implementation of Cohorts One and Two, we are seeking two HESP alumni volunteers (one female and one male) to support the delivery of the project and contribute to the success of the next cohort of refugee youth pursuing higher education opportunities.
As a HESP Volunteer, you will:
✅ Support participant engagement during weekly sessions.
✅ Assist with attendance tracking and participation monitoring.
✅ Facilitate communication through WhatsApp and other platforms.
✅ Support facilitators and guest speakers during virtual sessions.
✅ Share scholarship, education, and leadership opportunities.
✅ Encourage participant completion of assignments and programme activities.
✅ Assist with feedback collection and programme monitoring.
✅ Serve as a role model and ambassador of HESP
Eligibility Requirements:
• Graduate of HESP Cohort One or Cohort Two.
• Available to volunteer throughout HESP Cohort Three.
• Reliable internet access and a device for online participation.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Passionate about supporting refugee youth in accessing higher education opportunities.
📅 Volunteer Period: July – December 2026
⏰ Expected Commitment: Approximately 3–5 hours per week
Deadline: 6th July 2026.
This volunteer opportunity is a third phase of our program, which provides a platform for our alumni to strengthen leadership, facilitation, mentorship and community engagement skills and recognize the value of giving back to the refugee community.
