At Unity Intervention for Refugees (UIR-CBO) in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, we continue our work with children with commitment, patience, and hope. We do not grow tired of creating opportunities for children to learn, express themselves, build confidence, and develop positive values. Every small step forward reminds us why this work matters.
Today, something special happened at the UIR Office. A mother visited us and asked if she could join the learners in their classroom session. She wanted to see for herself what her two children were learning and how the activities were making a difference in their lives.
As she watched the children drawing, she was amazed. Rather than simply observing, she picked up a sheet of paper, an eraser, and a pencil and began drawing alongside the learners. She participated without feeling ashamed, showing that learning has no age limit and that it is never too late to discover something new.
But the most powerful part of her visit was what she shared about the changes she has noticed in her children at home.
She explained that her children are increasingly learning to distinguish between right and wrong and to understand the importance of listening to and respecting their parents. She shared an example of a day when their father asked them to go to a shop to buy mobile phone credit. The children responded by reminding him of the importance of helping with tasks they could manage and following their parents' instructions.
Her story reminded us that the lessons children learn at UIR do not end when they leave the classroom. They can carry these lessons into their homes, relationships, and everyday decisions.
At the end of her visit, the mother expressed her gratitude to the entire UIR team for the positive changes she has observed in her children. Her appreciation encouraged us to keep going, even when the work is challenging and resources are limited.
Strive to help children develop confidence, positive behavior, social skills, responsibility, respect, and the ability to make thoughtful choices.
We also recognize that parents and caregivers are important partners in children's learning. When families take an interest in what children learn, the connection between the classroom and home becomes stronger.

Our work is not measured only by what happens during a lesson but also by the positive lessons children carry into their daily lives and the hope families see in their children's growth.
We will keep showing up, keep learning, and keep working because every child deserves the opportunity to grow, every family deserves support, and every positive change is worth celebrating.
