Creating play opportunities from what we have.

The Tucheze Tustawi Project continued its caregiver training with Day 5 focusing on the production of local play items using locally available materials.

The session provided caregivers with practical knowledge and skills to develop play materials that can be used to support children's learning, development and wellbeing.

Using locally available materials can make play more accessible while also encouraging creativity, resourcefulness and community ownership.

Through this training, caregivers are being equipped to create environments where children can play, learn, explore and grow.

Play is more than fun — it is an important part of how children learn and develop.

Turning agricultural skills into sustainable businesses.

The Matunguu Shinerry Group in Kakamega County is exploring multiple agricultural enterprises, including apiculture, poultry and African Leafy Vegetables (ALVs).

Through their beekeeping activities, the group is not only producing honey but also making their own beehives and working on ways to strengthen the branding and marketing of their products.

These efforts demonstrate how community-based agricultural enterprises can create pathways towards stronger livelihoods and greater economic opportunities for young people.

From producing honey to developing their own beekeeping equipment and improving how their products reach the market, the group is putting entrepreneurship into practice.

Restoring drylands goes beyond the structures we build. It is also about strengthening the communities that care for and depend on these landscapes.

At Lochoredome, during a hydration break while community members worked to establish soil and water conservation structures, participants had a brief but important discussion about the future of their communities and natural resources.

The conversation placed emphasis on:

Strengthening governance
Protecting nature-based enterprises
Building pathways towards sustainable, community-led businesses

These conversations are an important part of ecosystem restoration — connecting environmental conservation with livelihoods, governance and opportunities for communities to build sustainable enterprises.

Through community participation, restoration can contribute not only to healthier landscapes, but also to more resilient communities and sustainable livelihoods. 🌍💚

When communities help create the solution, the impact begins with participation.

As part of the ongoing Tucheze Tustawi Project, the project team engaged with the communities of Natiira and Lomunyara Kirionyok in a materials development activity.

The session provided an opportunity for community members to participate, share ideas and contribute to the development of materials that can support children's learning, development and wellbeing through play.

Tucheze Tustawi continues to bring together communities and project teams to explore how play can become a meaningful part of children's learning and healing.

From ideas to materials, and from materials to opportunities for children to learn, play and grow.

Building mentors. Empowering entrepreneurs. Creating stronger businesses.

The ACME Development Organisation team, along with partners including WFP and FSC, participated in a Cradle Mentorship Training on Business Development Services (BDS) to equip mentors with the knowledge and skills to effectively support emerging entrepreneurs.

From understanding adult learning and effective communication to developing Business Model Canvases, identifying business gaps, strengthening sales and customer acquisition strategies, and navigating finance, credit and entrepreneurship, the training focused on one key goal: helping mentors help others build sustainable businesses.

Mentors will work directly with mentees for 2½ months, offering individual and group support to strengthen their businesses, encourage diversification, and unlock new opportunities.

When knowledge is shared, businesses grow. When businesses grow, communities grow.

The Tucheze Tustawi journey continues.

As part of the ongoing Tucheze Tustawi Project, the team visited Biafra Health Facility in Nairobi for an engagement focused on understanding the experiences and environments surrounding children and families accessing health services.

Visits such as these provide opportunities to connect, learn and identify ways to support children's development, wellbeing and healing through play.

From learning about the importance of play to engaging with spaces where children receive care, Tucheze Tustawi continues to bring together different perspectives around one important goal: creating better opportunities for children to learn, grow and thrive.

Ecosystem Restoration in Action

What does ecosystem restoration look like on the ground?

It looks like healthy crops, improved land management and communities putting sustainable practices into action.

During our recent project activities, we observed encouraging progress across the landscape:

Maize is showing good plant vigour and appropriate stand establishment.

Okra (ladies' fingers) is at active flowering and fruiting stages, indicating good development.

Soil and water conservation structures are showing good alignment and spacing across the landscape, helping support better management of soil and water resources.

These developments are an encouraging indication of the progress being made through the Ecosystem Restoration Project.

We look forward to sharing more of the journey, the people behind the work and the impact it creates.

Play for learning. Play for healing.

The Tucheze Tustawi Project continues to create spaces where learning, development and play come together.

During a recent session, participants explored key aspects of child development, brain development, regulation, and age-appropriate play materials, while discovering how play can support children as they learn, grow and heal.

Facilitated by Abigael, the session was filled with learning, laughter and, of course, plenty of play!

Because play isn't just about having fun, it is an essential part of childhood.

A new journey towards restoration begins.

We are proud to launch our Ecosystem Restoration Project, an initiative focused on strengthening environmental sustainability while working alongside communities to build resilience and create lasting change.

At ACME Development Organization, we believe meaningful development begins with communities. By supporting communities in participating in sustainable environmental practices, we can contribute to healthier ecosystems, stronger livelihoods, and a more resilient future.

This launch marks the beginning of a journey. In the coming weeks, we will share the people, activities and progress behind this work.
