What began a year ago as a journey of change in Banja is now yielding stories of growth and progress. Families in Banja Zone recently marked a year in the UKR Family Care Program, reflecting on the milestones achieved.

The occasion marked another important milestone for nine families in the Special Action category, who graduated from the program after demonstrating meaningful progress. Two outstanding families were also recognized for their exceptional commitment and performance throughout the year.

UKR CEO Nelson Ida commended the families for their commitment and collaboration, noting that their active participation has been central to the positive changes in their lives. The Banja Area Chief also recognized UKR’s contribution to improving family well-being and strengthening the wider community.

After receiving aquaculture training and support from UKR to establish his fish farming venture, Dunguya is celebrating his first successful harvest, a milestone he describes as a turning point for his family.

The venture is already providing an additional source of income, helping him meet household needs while laying the foundation for long-term financial independence.

Encouraged by the results, Dunguya plans to reinvest the proceeds into expanding his fish farming enterprise, confident that the venture will continue transforming his family's future.

We are excited to welcome 50 families from Buchifi Location, Mumias West, Kakamega into Cohort 7 of our 3-year Family Care Program.

This year, the beneficiary identification process was strengthened through collaboration with the Social Protection Secretariat under the Department of Social Services, which facilitated the identification of potential beneficiaries using the Government's Enhanced Single Registry Data.

This improved approach aligns with emerging standards and requirements for Public Benefits Organizations in beneficiary targeting and selection, ensuring transparency, fairness, and support reaches families most in need.

As part of the enrollment process, the families were taken through a comprehensive orientation on UKR's mission, programs, and the Family Care Model.

They were also informed of what is expected of them as participants, including their roles, responsibilities, and commitments needed to actualize the program and achieve lasting transformation.

We look forward to walking alongside these families as they work towards dignity, resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.
