Who is Chapa Dimba really meant to serve?
Chapa Dimba was created with a very important mission: to discover, develop and provide opportunities for talented young footballers at the grassroots level. It is supposed to be a platform where a young player can be discovered because of what he demonstrates on the football pitch—not because of his connections, reputation or background.
This is why the case of Alvin Mwangi deserves a conversation.
Alvin has been performing at a high level throughout the Nyeri County Chapa Dimba tournament, making it all the way to the semifinals. His contribution has gone far beyond scoring goals.
Throughout the tournament, Alvin has repeatedly demonstrated leadership, football intelligence, teamwork, discipline, decision-making, positioning, work rate, understanding of the basic principles of the game and consistency. He has shown the qualities of a complete footballer and a player capable of influencing the game in different ways.
And the statistics matter too.
Alvin has been among the leading players in both goals and assists in Nyeri County.
But there is another important part of his story.
Alvin is not a player who suddenly appeared during Chapa Dimba. He has previously been recognized for his performances in other football tournaments in the county and is already known to many football and federation officials at the county level.
That makes the question even more important:
If a player consistently performs, leads, contributes goals and assists, demonstrates strong football principles and has already been recognized in previous county competitions—what criteria are being used when selecting Player of the Tournament?
This is not about demanding an award for Alvin.
It is about demanding clarity and fairness in the process.
