CPI Kenya organized an Inter Community Peace Exchange Program targeting Pokot and Tugen children from Katikit, Kositei and Tuluk, Chepkesing and Kapturo primary school.

The main goal of the activity was to create opportunity for interaction between the two neighboring communities that have been separated by years of violent conflict. The activity brought together 93 children:46 Pokots and 47 Tugen. They were accompanied by 5 teachers, 2 senior chiefs and 1 assistant chief. Bartabwa ward admin and 2 pastors (1pokot and 1 Tugen) were also present.

For the most of children from Tugen community, this activity provided them with the first time experience to visit Pokot community and spend 3 days interacting with the host children and community members.

The children interacted through games and bonding activities organized by CPI Kenya. Some children who had friends in nearby villages of Katikit and Kositei got an opportunity to visit their friends homestead and meet and greet with their parents.

The entire program created a transformative experience for both children and accompanying adults. It gave them a chance to spend time with perceived enemies, learn their names and gradually see them differently from the previous stereotyped identity they had of each other This activity was setting the pace for the next activity: children and parents pairing and home stay which will be involving children and their parents.

It’s our hope that this activity will pave way for a peaceful Baringo North one village at a time
