When women have stable income and skills, girls are less likely to be pushed into harmful coping pathways. Equality becomes real when households have options and girls are not treated as the option.

The Kajiado Girls Assembly is now in session.

Representatives from 15 school girls’ assemblies are gathering after a successful term to review the issues affecting girls in their schools, based on data they collected themselves. Next, they will take these priorities forward and engage county government officials and key stakeholders because girls deserve to speak for themselves, and to be heard.

The most powerful advocacy is when we make room for girls to speak for themselves. At Malkia, we support girl-led advocacy by equipping girls to research the issues affecting their education and safety, then turn their findings into action through community dialogues and creative expression like spoken word, art, and performance. And we don’t stop at the community level, the girls also meet county government officials to present their findings, ask hard questions, and push for solutions.

Boda boda riders are often the first to see danger and the first to get survivors to safety- on the roads, near schools, in villages and in the moments before any system responds. Through the Voices uncut project, we’re shifting boda boda riders from bystanders to first responders: equipping them to recognize GBV red flags early, protect confidentiality, avoid harmful “mediation,” and safely link survivors to trusted health, child protection, and justice services

Happy International Women’s Day. Today, we celebrate women and we recommit to girls. Because the future we want is one where every girl grows up safe, educated, and free to choose her life. The crown still belongs to her. Always. 👑💜

A girl’s safety is often held by women long before any system responds. The conversations women have in kitchens, churches, bomas, and marketplaces can protect a child or expose her to harm. At Malkia, we choose protection.

Gender equality is more than rights on paper, it’s providing options in real life. We believe when women have income, skills and decision making power, girls and women are less vulnerable to gender based violence including harmful practices. When you empower women, you protect girls

End FGM and Child Marriage starts with honest conversation among women. Our project creates safe spaces for women to hold dialogues because harmful practices are often sustained in quiet spaces. These dialogues are where norms shift, courage grows and collective accountability is built, strengthening local action to protect girls before harm happens.

Yesterday was powerful.

We held a vibrant community engagement event marking the culmination of our Community Advocacy Practicum, where girls took the lead in researching barriers to education in their own community.

Their findings were clear and urgent: in the community around St. Patrick’s Kajiado Township Secondary, teenage pregnancy is one of the biggest barriers keeping girls from staying and thriving in school.

And they did not present this data quietly. The girls turned evidence into action through spoken word, dance, and art, creative advocacy that moved hearts and challenged silence. They also convened group discussions with parents and community stakeholders, creating honest intergenerational dialogue on protection, accountability, and solutions.

We closed the day with a beautiful colour festiva, a celebration of Agency, courage, voice, and collective hope.

Zero tolerance means zero excuses. From communities to governments, funders, frontline advocates, and every institution responsible for girls’ safety. Anything less leaves girls unprotected.
