OCWR rangers were alerted by community members about an elephant with a spear injury on its right front leg. The team responded quickly and began searching for the injured elephant. Within a few hours, they located him resting under a large acacia tree to escape the intense daytime heat. The veterinary team from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was notified and arrived promptly to assist. They tranquilized the elephant and treated the wound with antibiotics. The vet team assessed the injury and determined that it was quite severe, resulting in swelling of the leg. The OCWR rangers will continue to monitor the elephant for the next 10 days until the veterinary team returns for a follow-up treatment.
