Strengthening Digital Security for Refugees and Migrants

We were pleased to attend an insightful session organised by Migrant Narratives Africa in partnership with TRUST LAB, focusing on digital security, data privacy, and the growing online risks faced by refugees and migrants.

Refugees and other vulnerable communities are increasingly targeted by online scams, fake job opportunities, identity theft, harassment, and digital fraud. The session provided an important opportunity to learn how we can better protect our personal information, recognise online threats, and exercise our data privacy rights.

At ReHA, we believe that safety online is just as important as safety offline. We encourage community members to:
🔹 Use strong and unique passwords
🔹 Be cautious with suspicious links and messages
🔹 Avoid sharing sensitive information with unverified individuals or platforms
🔹 Learn about and exercise your data privacy rights
🔹 Stay informed about emerging digital threats

A safer digital space starts with awareness, vigilance, and collective responsibility.

Resilient Hearts Africa (ReHA) was proudly represented at the Personal Safety and Security Training for LGBTQI+ asylum seekers, refugees, and the broader LGBTQI+ community, hosted by the High Commission of Canada to Kenya.
The session strengthened our knowledge on personal safety, community protection, digital security, and legal rights, while creating an important space for learning, collaboration, and collective action. We remain committed to advancing the safety, dignity, and rights of LGBTQI+ refugees, asylum seekers, and other structurally marginalized communities.

Across our global network, we’ve seen how sport can support mental wellbeing — through relationships, safe spaces and a sense of belonging.
