Today, Waso Green Movement, in partnership with Isiolo Eco Alliance CBO, successfully planted 30 indigenous trees at Isiolo GK Prison.

This initiative is part of our continued commitment to restoring degraded ecosystems, increasing green cover, and promoting environmental responsibility within our institutions. Indigenous trees are vital for conserving biodiversity, improving soil health, and strengthening climate resilience in our region.

Tree planting is more than just putting seedlings in the ground, it is planting hope, dignity, and a sustainable future for Isiolo.

Together, we are growing a greener and more resilient community.

Today, Waso Green Movement proudly participated in the Kenya Rangelands Ecosystem Services Productivity Programme (RangER) Land Degradation and Invasive Alien Plant Species Management Strategies Validation Workshop.

The RangER Programme is funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, bringing together stakeholders committed to restoring Kenya’s rangelands and strengthening ecosystem productivity.

Isiolo County’s rangelands are under serious threat from invasive alien plant species that are choking biodiversity, reducing pasture availability, and affecting pastoral livelihoods.

Prosopis juliflora, locally known as Mathenge, aggressively spreads across grazing lands, forming dense thickets that:
• Block access to pasture and water points
• Reduce native vegetation
• Injure livestock with its sharp thorns
• Deplete underground water resources

Opuntia stricta (Prickly Pear Cactus) spreads rapidly in drylands and:
• Occupies large grazing areas
• Injures livestock and wildlife
• Reduces land productivity
• Alters natural ecosystems.

As an environmental organization rooted in Isiolo, Waso Green Movement remains committed to advocating for sustainable land restoration, community awareness, and practical solutions that protect our fragile rangeland ecosystems.

Restoring our rangelands is not just about the environment, it is about securing livelihoods, protecting biodiversity, and safeguarding the future of pastoral communities.

🌍 WORLD WETLANDS DAY 2026 | ISIOLO COUNTY 🌿

Waso Green Movement is proud to have been part of the Planning Committee for the National World Wetlands Day celebrations, held in Isiolo County.
This year’s theme, “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage,” strongly resonates with our work, recognizing that environmental conservation is deeply linked to indigenous knowledge, community stewardship, and cultural heritage.
Being involved in the planning of this national event was not just an honour, but a reaffirmation of our commitment to protecting wetlands, promoting climate action, and amplifying community-led conservation efforts, especially in arid and semi-arid regions.

We appreciate the collaboration with government institutions, partners, community leaders, and fellow environmental actors who made the event meaningful and impactful.

🌱 Together, we continue to protect wetlands—for people, culture, biodiversity, and future generations.

🌱 A Small Story with a Big Goal 🌱

Hello Friends.

Waso Green Movement is running an Adopt a Tree Program aimed at planting 1,000 fruit trees in secondary schools. These trees will improve school environments, support nutrition, and help students learn practical environmental conservation.

This is a mission we cannot achieve alone. Reaching 1,000 trees requires the support and goodwill of community members who believe that climate action starts at the grassroots.

We are forming a WhatsApp group to bring together people who would like to:
• Learn more about the program
• Follow the tree planting journey
• Support the initiative in any way possible

If this story resonates with you, you are welcome to join the group through the link below:
👉 Join the Adopt a Tree Program WhatsApp Group:

Joining the group is voluntary and comes with no obligation, only a shared interest in growing a greener future for our schools.

🌳 Together, we can grow hope - one tree at a time.
