The final day of our training that focused on the Constitution of the group and the strengthening of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) to promote financial empowerment, accountability and sustainable community development. The session aimed at equipping participants with knowledge and practical skills on how to develop strong group leadership structures, effective governance systems and transparent financial management practices within community savings groups.
Facilitators guided participants through the importance of having a well-structured group constitution that clearly outlines the objectives of the group, leadership roles, membership responsibilities, rules and regulations, meeting procedures, savings contributions, loan management and conflict resolution mechanisms. Participants learned that a strong constitution helps promote unity, transparency, discipline and accountability within the group while ensuring smooth operations and equal participation for all members.
The training also focused on strengthening Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) as a pathway towards economic empowerment and financial resilience among community members, especially women and youth. Participants were trained on proper savings methods, record keeping, loan issuance procedures, interest management and the importance of trust and collective responsibility within savings groups.
Discussions emphasized how VSLA groups can help members access financial support, grow small businesses, improve household income and respond to emergencies without depending on external financial institutions.
Through interactive discussions and group exercises, participants shared experiences, challenges and success stories related to community savings initiatives. The session encouraged members to work together, maintain transparency and support one another in achieving both individual and group development goals.
The three-day training concluded successfully with participants expressing appreciation for the knowledge and skills gained on unpaid care work, energy-saving jikos and VSLA group management. The training strengthened community awareness, leadership, financial literacy and collective responsibility, leaving participants motivated to implement the lessons learned within their communities for sustainable social and economic transformation.
