As schools close, for many girls it marks the beginning of a nightmare facing the risk of FGM or early marriage. Heartbreaking, isn’t it?

Zero tolerance is not just a date on the calendar it is a promise we renew with every conversation, every voice raised, and every safe space created within our communities.
Today, we stand with girls, women, elders, youth, and frontline champions who continue to choose dignity over harmful traditions. Across our villages, change is no longer a distant idea; it is happening through dialogue, courage, and collective responsibility.
Ending FGM is not about speaking for communities it is about walking alongside them as they redefine what protection, culture, and leadership truly mean for the next generation.
On this International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, we add our voice to the movement: listening deeper, acting together, and protecting every girl’s right to grow, dream, and thrive free from harm.

In every village, wisdom sits with our elders, energy lives with our youth, and courage rises with our women.
Our engagement, in Rapp, Oldonyiro ward , the Intergenerational Dialogue brought all these voices to one table not to debate who is right, but to listen, learn and build a future where girls grow without fear of FGM.

From stories of the past to promises for tomorrow, one truth stood out clearly: when generations speak to each other, communities move forward together.

As we move into the 16 Days of Activism, we stand in solidarity with every woman whose voice has been ignored, every girl whose dreams were dimmed by violence, and every survivor who still finds the strength to rise.

Violence against women isn’t a headline it’s a lived reality in our homes, our villages, our schools, and our communities. And ending it requires more than awareness. It demands courage. Commitment. And collective responsibility.

At Zzuri Kenya, we choose to use our platforms, our programmes, and our voice to say enough.
Enough to the silence.
Enough to the shame.
Enough to the normalization of harm.
We walk into these 16 Days not just to speak but to act, to listen, and to stand with survivors and communities driving change from within.

Some conversations don’t need microphones or big halls just a circle of women, a shared mat, and the courage to speak from the heart.
In Kachewa and the neighbouring villages, women gathered not as audiences, but as authors of their own stories. In that circle, they unpacked the real issues shaping their daily lives from navigating household decisions to confronting harmful practices like FGM that silently affect generations.
What made the space powerful was the honesty that filled it. Women shared the ways they overcome challenges in their homes, how they protect their daughters, and how they support one another through the quiet struggles no one sees.
When women sit together, ideas are born. Strength is shared. Change becomes personal… and possible.

Zzuri Kenya, in partnership with ActionAid remains committed to creating safe spaces where women lead the conversations, shape solutions, and safeguard the futures of their girls.

When women gather, stories turn into strength and conversations become change.

In Nainyakore and Elsa villages, we sat in circles, to listen. To the mothers, daughters, and grandmothers who carry generations of wisdom, resilience, and the quiet courage to challenge what no longer serves them.

Within these Women Circles, part of the KOMESHA FGM SASA advocacy campaign, voices once silent found space to speak. Ideas turned into commitments, and experiences became shared lessons on how to protect our girls, educate our sons, and rebuild communities on equality and respect.
Because when women are heard, communities heal.
