We joined fellow Civil Society Organisations from Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega and Homa Bay counties for a two-day information session convened by TISA under the TUNU Project at Amanda Resort, Kakamega County.

As Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Election, the session provided an important space for CSOs to share experiences, identify key governance and electoral issues, and develop a common agenda for joint action.

Through collaboration and informed civic engagement, we are working towards strengthening good governance and contributing to a credible, transparent, verifiable and just electoral process in 2027.

Today, we held the TUNU Quarterly Reflection and Review Meeting at DCC Hall, Homa Bay, with support from KAS.
The meeting brought together Integrity Club members and patrons from Homa Bay VTC, Rangwe TVC and Kabuoch VTC, the Director of Youth Affairs and CSOs to review progress, share experiences and identify practical ways to strengthen integrity, transparency and accountability.

The discussions provided valuable lessons for improving Integrity Club activities, strengthening collaboration and empowering young people to take an active role in promoting accountable institutions and communities.

Today, we joined partners and stakeholders in Homa Bay County to commemorate World Contraception Day at Kolunga Beach, Suba North Sub-County.

The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of voluntary, rights-based family planning, access to quality reproductive health services, and informed decision-making, particularly for young people and communities.

The celebrations were graced by Hon. Grace Mercy Osewe OGW, CECM for Public Health and Medical Services, Homa Bay County, alongside health stakeholders, civil society organisations, community representatives and other partners.
A key highlight was the official launch of the Homa Bay County Reproductive Health Policy, marking an important step towards strengthening reproductive health programming and service delivery across the county.

As CYAN Kenya, we remain committed to working with communities and partners to advance Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), empower young people with accurate information, and promote access to quality health services.

Today, we joined Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from 20 counties for a one-day Learning and Reflection Meeting convened by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Kenia (KAS) at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Nairobi.

The meeting provided an important space for us to reflect on our achievements, lessons learned, challenges and emerging opportunities in promoting transparency, accountability and improved service delivery in county governance.

Key areas of discussion included citizen participation and accountability in county governance, the progress and sustainability of Integrity Clubs, and experiences using digital accountability and reporting platforms such as A4T and Uwajibikaji Pamoja.

We also developed a joint action plan for the final quarter of the project, running through December 2026, focusing on consolidating gains, addressing identified gaps and strengthening citizen engagement.

For us, such spaces are important for peer learning, sharing practical experiences and developing collective solutions that can make county governance more transparent, responsive and accountable to citizens.

Our commitment remains clear: Empowering young people, Transforming Communities, Advancing Rights.

This work contributes to SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, particularly the promotion of accountable, inclusive and effective institutions at all levels.

Our Communication Department participated in a media sensitization meeting at Grand Duke Hotel, convened by Activate Action Kenya on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), unsafe abortion and responsible reporting.

The session created an important space for media practitioners to reflect on how we communicate SRHR issues, especially those affecting young people. We explored the importance of accurate, evidence-based and non-stigmatizing reporting that protects dignity and ensures communities have access to reliable information.

Responsible reporting contributes to broader development goals, including SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

As communicators, our role is not only to tell stories, but also to inform, challenge misinformation, amplify evidence and ensure that conversations around SRHR are handled with accuracy, sensitivity and responsibility.

We remain committed to using communication as a tool for informed communities, stronger health outcomes and meaningful social change.

Yesterday we held a Child-to-Child Interaction Session with the EYE Department at Nyamanga Comprehensive School, creating a fun and supportive space for children to learn, play and interact with one another.
Through songs, dance and games, the children had an opportunity to express their talents, build confidence and enjoy meaningful interaction with their peers.

The session also highlighted the importance of nurturing care in early childhood development. When children are given safe and engaging spaces to play, express themselves and connect with others, they develop essential social, emotional and communication skills.

Every song, dance and game was a reminder that play is not just fun ,it is an important part of learning and growing.

Breaking the Stigma Around Child Developmental Delays.

At Mwirendia, we held a community sensitization session focused on de-stigmatizing child developmental delays and promoting greater understanding, acceptance and support for children experiencing developmental challenges.

The session brought together 35 community members, predominantly adolescent and young mothers, who engaged in open discussions on the importance of recognizing developmental delays early, challenging stigma and creating supportive environments where every child can thrive.

De-stigmatization starts with awareness. When families and communities understand developmental delays, they are better placed to seek support, avoid harmful misconceptions and ensure children receive the care and attention they need.

The session was conducted with support from Kmet Kenya whose partnership continues to strengthen community awareness and promote inclusive approaches to child development.

On 9th September 2026, we joined education stakeholders and partners at Cold Springs Hotel, Homa Bay, for the launch and dissemination of the Homa Bay County Gender in Education Action Plan 2026–2030 led by Population Council

The Action Plan is the result of continuous stakeholder consultations and a participatory, evidence-based process aimed at addressing gender-related barriers affecting education in the county. The process brought together education stakeholders, the County Government, Ministry of Interior, National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), civil society and community organisations, youth representatives and other partners, with support from Population Council–Kenya.
For Homa Bay, the Action Plan comes at an important time. While primary school enrolment is almost universal, participation declines as learners grow older. Among young people aged 18–22, only 46.6% of girls remain in school compared to 66.2% of boys.

Teenage pregnancy remains a major factor contributing to girls’ school dropout, often leading to early marriage and disruption of their education. Boys also face challenges, including being drawn into economic activities such as sand harvesting and fishing at an early age.
These realities remind us that keeping children in school requires more than enrolment. It calls for stronger community support, mentorship, protection, reintegration and opportunities that respond to the realities young people face.

For us, the Action Plan provides an opportunity to strengthen our work in adolescent mentorship and reintegration, while expanding support for adolescent girls and young women to remain in school, access essential services and pursue opportunities that can shape their future.
We remain committed to working with the County Government, communities, young people and partners to turn the commitments in the Action Plan into meaningful action.
Keeping learners in school is a shared responsibility.
