🌱‼️We Need Your Support ‼️🌱

We are launching a community farming initiative in Homa Bay County to create employment, strengthen food security, and build a sustainable source of income for local families 🤝.

Our goal is to cultivate maize, beans, vegetables, and tomatoes year-round 🌽🍅. This project is not just about farming, it is about empowerment. It creates jobs while generating income that is reinvested directly back into the community.

The rainy season is knocking at our door 🌧️, and this is our critical planting window.

We urgently need funds to purchase the necessary seeds in the coming weeks. Without immediate support, we risk missing this planting season and delaying both food production and income generation.

This is about long-term stability, not short-term aid. Every contribution is invested into systems that create continuous impact.

If you can support us, it would mean the world to us ❤️. Please reach out directly through this page or contact one of our two current volunteers .sarah or

Together, we don’t just plant crops, we plant hope 🌾

✨ PARTNER SPOTLIGHT✨

Kobiera Widows is a group of widowed women in the quiet village of Nduta in Homa Bay County. 🇰🇪

They decided to come together with a mission to provide support to one another through emotional, social, and financial aspects. The loss of a husband exposes widows to vulnerability and brings sudden responsibilities of raising children, managing households, while also generating income with limited resources or support.

Recognizing these shared struggles, the widows of the village came together to create a supportive space where they could encourage one another and work towards financial independence. 🤝

They meet once a week to discuss upcoming project developments or urgent matters that may require assistance from the group.

The women are currently in the process of starting a small-scale farming and poultry-keeping project that will generate income. 🌱🐔 The profits generated through these self-sustaining initiatives will be used to support members’ families, pay school fees, cover medical expenses, and meet daily household needs.

The main challenge they are now facing is raising enough capital to launch this project.

If you can contribute in any way (maize, poultry, construction materials, construction skills, money donations, etc.), please reach out to us. 💛

By supporting Imara Community Growth Network (ICGN), you support empowering initiatives like Kobiera Widows. ✨❤️🇰🇪

Hi, I’m Nixon, one of the founders of ICGN.

The inspiration to start Imara Community Growth Network came from a deeply personal story in my own family.
When my wife Eunice and I got married, she was an orphan. From a very young age, she had to care for her younger siblings, leading her to quit school. With that, there was no stable income. Survival was her daily reality.

Then Eunice trained in tailoring. She worked hard. After completing her training, she began earning her own income. She was able to care for her siblings, restore stability in her family, and rebuild her confidence.
That transformation changed everything.
I witnessed how one practical skill could restore dignity, independence, and hope. I saw that empowerment is stronger than charity.
That experience inspired us to create Imara Community Growth Network.

Today, I also have the privilege of hosting our international volunteers, sharing ideas, learning from one another, and building solutions together. I love deep conversations and big community dreams.

At ICGN, our belief is simple: when you empower women, you strengthen families and communities.

If this vision speaks to you, we invite you to follow our journey and support our work as we continue building sustainable solutions for women and families in Homa Bay.

This is where our journey began. And this is why we continue. ❤️

🔎PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: THE GATES ACADEMY🔎
The Gates Academy is our most successful educational partner. With their small classes and dedicated teaching staff, they are able to create an environment to nurture talent and assist learners in achieving their most ambitious goals.
But they have recently fallen victim of catastrophe. Having been evicted from their previous location, they were forced to move their school onto their playing field. Their facilities now lack cement floors, and they have no access to electricity. In the process they also lost many students and are no longer able to provide their feeding programme, or pay teachers as well as they used to.
ICGN took some time to sit down with the teachers and children at The Gates Academy recently, to document their story.

🚨🚨PARTNER SPOTLIGHT🚨🚨
Pro-Active Junior School is one of our oldest partners!
Based in the Makongeni slums of Homa Bay, the school endeavours to provide quality education to even the most vulnerable of children.
During the course of four years at Pro-Active, children will learn to speak fluently in two new languages: Kiswahili and English. This is an essential foundation that the will need to complete the rest of their education.
Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down for a good old chat with Pro-Active founder, Grace. An incredibly wise woman, and talented educator, Grace has been a close friend of our organisation for many years. Her story is one of resilience and perseverance, and she is an inspiration to us at Imara to keep working hard to support those who need help!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY!

We’re so proud of the wonderful women in our community. After all the challenges they have overcome in their individual lives, and all that they have achieved, we at Imara never cease to be amazed by the women around us.

Imara would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the women who have helped us in the past and who continue to work tirelessly to support our efforts. Pictured are some of the women who are at the heart of what makes our work meaningful: five teachers which make up our oldest partner, Pro-Active Junior School, and our master tailor Eunice with some of her trainees. It’s women like these who inspire us to persevere despite all manner of challenges.

Women’s empowerment is a core focus of our work here at ICGN, and we tackle issues of gender equality through a holistic approach. Not only do we focus on young girls in education, ensuring that access to learning remains equal for all, but we also target vulnerable women through our tailoring project, offering them skills development to set them on the right path toward financial independence.

As part of our ongoing work, we are currently in the planning phase of a targeted community engagement project focussed on advocating for gender equality and an end to GBV and femicide. We would like to encourage any parties wishing to collaborate on this project to get in touch.

From the ashes, we must rise!

Karibu! We are Imara Community Growth Network: a small team of dedicated individuals working to empower communities through education, social initiatives, and sustainable development.

Based on the edge of Lake Victoria in Homa Bay, Kenya, our work involves various community projects focused on women’s empowerment, youth education, and environmental sustainability.
In the past, our tailoring project has allowed us to support the paying of school fees, school feeding programmes, SHRH and employability outreach workshops, and waste management initiatives.

But a terrible building fire has left us with limited facilities and resources to continue our work. Our story is one of resilience and perseverance.

We are in desperate need of financial assistance to get our tailoring project back up on its feet, thus supporting the return of our various community projects.
