Restore Dignity: Help Us End Period Poverty in Homa Bay West Ward 🩸✨
Period poverty is the painful reality where girls and young women cannot afford basic sanitary products like pads, forcing them to use unsafe alternatives like old rags, pieces of mattress, or even dried leaves. This crisis goes far beyond hygiene—it directly attacks a girl's education, health, and future. Biologically, it leads to severe reproductive tract infections and long-term health complications, while socially it breeds deep shame, forcing school-going girls to miss critical class days every single month and fall permanently behind their peers.
As Rariw Open Heart Fairview Support CBO, we are actively answering the biblical call to "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2). Our team is on the ground launching a critical Menstrual Hygiene Management intervention to support 500 vulnerable adolescent girls and young mothers across Homa Bay West Ward. By combining reproductive health education with a consistent supply of sanitary products, we aim to break this cycle of silent suffering and restore their God-given dignity.
To achieve this, a single packet of safe, hygienic pads costs just $0.78 USD (KSh 100), and our goal is to ensure each girl is fully supported. Every single contribution makes an immediate, life-changing impact, whether it is a one-off gift or a recurring monthly commitment of any amount—even just $1 dollar goes a long way. This initiative is organized to directly combat period poverty by supporting **500 vulnerable school-going girls and young mothers** within the Homa Bay West Ward. Recognizing that lack of access to menstrual products is a leading cause of school absenteeism and health complications, this drive aims to distribute a three-month supply of sanitary towels, undergarments, and hygiene kits to each beneficiary. Beyond the distribution of physical supplies, the program will integrate essential educational workshops on **Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)** and reproductive health to empower participants and dismantle local social stigmas. We are calling upon partners to assist with the procurement of 4,500 packets of towels** and the logistics for the upcoming distribution event. Greetings of peace and hope to you.

My name is Opiyo Zablone Opiyo, and I am writing this open letter from the heart, to share with you a vision that has been growing within me and my team for a long time.

I am the founder of a community-based organization known as RARIW OPEN HEART FAIRVIEW SUPPORT CBO. Our mission has always been simple yet profound: to walk alongside the forgotten. We exist for the families who have been left behind, the individuals who feel invisible, and the children whose dreams are dimmed by the harsh realities of poverty. Through our work, we strive to restore dignity and offer a hand up to those who need it most.

Today, we are nurturing something new and deeply meaningful. We are in the process of giving shape to a comprehensive Social Health Program. This initiative is being built to be a true lifeline for the forgotten families in our midst. It focuses on healing and strengthening the whole person through three core pillars:

· Food Support: To combat hunger and ensure that no family has to face a single day on an empty stomach.
· Counseling: To provide a safe and compassionate space for emotional and mental healing, tending to wounds that cannot be seen.
· Psychosocial Development: To empower individuals and families with the resilience, skills, and support systems they need to rebuild their lives and look toward the future with hope.

As we pour our hearts into this work, we envision this program becoming more than just a project. We see it becoming a center of glimmering hope for the forgotten—a place where the vulnerable are not just given aid, but are reminded that they are seen, they are valued, and they are loved.

However, the path to building such a beacon of light is not without its challenges. The needs within our community are immense, and while our desire to serve is boundless, our resources are currently limited. There are so many families we long to reach, so many hearts we yearn to heal, but we cannot do it alone.
