Yesterday, in partnership with GKL, we held a mentorship and Menstrual Health Management session at Makongeni Comprehensive School to equip learners with the knowledge and confidence to manage menstruation safely and with dignity.

The session created a safe space for open discussions about menstrual health, hygiene, and breaking the stigma that often keeps girls from reaching their full potential. We also encouraged learners to support one another and understand that menstruation is a normal part of life.

By improving access to accurate information on sexual and reproductive health, we are helping young people make informed choices, stay in school, and protect their health and well-being.

We believe that when girls have the right knowledge and support, they are better able to participate fully in education and pursue their dreams.

Thank you to GKL and the school community for making this important session possible.

Periods come and go in a natural cycle of highs and lows.

But for millions of girls and women living in poverty, the start of a period marks the beginning of a very different cycle, one that is not biological, but social and economic.

A cycle where:
• You cannot afford basic menstrual products
• You miss school or drop out entirely
• You lose job opportunities or income for that month
• You fall further behind economically
• And poverty deepens, quietly, month after month

What should be a normal part of life becomes a barrier to dignity, education, and opportunity.

On Menstrual Hyiene Day, we are reminded that menstrual health is not just a health issue, it is an issue of equity, education, and economic justice.

No girl should have to choose between dignity and survival. No woman should lose opportunity because of her period.

At Activate Action we are working to break this cycle by ensuring girls and young women can access menstrual health support, stay in school, and remain in control of their futures.

Today in our Street Business School session, we had a practical and discussion-based module on Business Planning with the women in our program.

We simplified business planning by comparing it to event planning, something relatable and easy to understand. This helped everyone see that a business also needs structure, preparation, and clear steps to succeed.

Together, we discussed key areas such as:
- Defining the purpose and goals of their businesses
- Identifying products and services they offer
Understanding competitors and learning from them
- Finding their unique competitive advantage
Knowing their customers and how to reach them
Improving customer care and building loyalty
- Basic financial planning (costs, pricing, profit)
- Challenges they face and practical solutions
- Clear action steps to move forward

What stood out most was the open sharing, real-life experiences, and the confidence growing among the women as they connected the lessons to their daily businesses.
A truly practical and empowering session.

At Activate Action Kenya , we recently hosted the Kenya Legal & Ethical Issues Network [ KELIN ] for an organizational capacity assessment session.

The engagement provided a valuable opportunity for reflection, learning, and strengthening our institutional systems as we continue advancing health-related human rights and community-centered programming.

Through the assessment, we explored key areas around organizational development, governance, accountability, sustainability, partnerships, and evidence-driven programming. The process also reinforced the importance of building strong and resilient systems that better serve vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded populations in our communities.

We appreciate KELIN's commitment to capacity strengthening, collaborative learning, and supporting grassroots organizations to enhance their impact and sustainability.

As Activate Action, we remain committed to continuous growth, strengthening our structures, and building sustainable programs that create lasting impact for adolescents and young people in Homa Bay County and beyond.

Thank you, KELIN, for the meaningful engagement and partnership.

Yesterday, Activate Action Kenya hosted a stakeholders engagement meeting at our office in Homa Bay, bringing together CSOs implementing programs serving adolescent girls and young women in partnership with UNICEF Africa and the Kenya Guides Association

The meeting created an opportunity for partners to share experiences, discuss challenges affecting adolescent girls, and strengthen collaboration in promoting health, protection, education, mental health, and empowerment for young people in our communities.

At Activate Action, we believe partnerships and youth-led action are important in creating safe spaces and opportunities for adolescent girls and young women to thrive and reach their full potential.

We appreciate UNICEF and the Kenya Guides Association for working together with local organizations to support and amplify the voices of young people in Homa Bay County.

Economic empowerment is more than teaching business skills, it is about restoring confidence, dignity, and hope.

Through the Street Business School program at Activate Action Kenya, we are equipping rural young women in Homa Bay with entrepreneurship skills and mentorship to help them build sustainable livelihoods and break cycles of poverty and vulnerability.

What makes this program unique is that we work with women who are often excluded from economic opportunities young mothers, women affected by HIV, survivors of gender-based violence, and those with limited access to education and employment.

We believe that when a woman gains financial independence, she also gains the power to make informed decisions about her health, her future, and her family.

So far, we have trained and supported over 150 women through:
✅ Entrepreneurship and business management training
✅ Mentorship and coaching
✅ Startup grants and follow-up support
✅ Linkages to business development opportunities
✅ Confidence and mindset-building sessions

The impact goes beyond business. We are seeing women become community leaders, support their families, return to school, and inspire others around them.

At Activate Action, we are committed to creating a future where young women move from survival to possibility.

At Activate Action Kenya, we are redefining what it means to support women and young girls in vulnerable communities.

Too often, services for women are fragmented, health here, education there, and economic support somewhere else entirely. The result is that many girls still fall through the cracks.
We have built something different.

We call it an integrated “Heal, Learn, and Earn” model.

Through our youth-led approach, women and girls access:
- Sexual and reproductive health education and services
- Mental health support within safe, trusted community spaces
- Menstrual and dignity support to restore confidence and participation
- Entrepreneurship training through initiatives like Street Business School
- Linkages to economic opportunities that promote long-term independence

This is not just service delivery. It is a connected ecosystem of empowerment delivered in one place, by people who understand the realities of the communities they serve.

The result is simple but powerful:
Girls are not only staying in school and improving their health outcomes they are also building livelihoods and reshaping their futures.

At Activate Action, we believe the future of women’s empowerment is not fragmented interventions, but integrated solutions that address the whole person.

We are now seeking partners who believe in:
- Scalable, community-led models
- Integrated SRHR, mental health, and economic empowerment
- Youth-driven innovation with measurable impact

If your organization is committed to systems change for women and girls, we would love to connect and explore partnership opportunities.

Because when we combine health, dignity, and economic power in one pathway we don’t just support women. We transform futures.
