Children have a voice—and the law protects it.

Guided by Article 8 of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACWRC), 1990 and Section 28 of the Children Act, 2022, children have the right to assemble, express themselves, present petitions, and actively participate in decisions that affect their lives at national, county, and sub-county levels.

In line with this, Nakuru East Sub-County successfully held its 2026 Children Assembly at the Child Protection Center. The event brought together children to boldly advocate for their rights and elect leaders who will represent them at the County level.

This milestone was made possible through the collaboration of key partners, including the Directorate of Children Services, SPEAK Kenya, SHOFCO, Elimu ni Thamani, New Life, Ahlul Bayt, and other partners committed to championing children’s rights.

*Youth Advocacy*

SPEAK Kenya participated in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) representing youth in advocacy spaces.

The session was organized by the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat (NAKS), the national coordinating institution for the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) process in Kenya.
NAKS is currently conducting a nationwide Targeted Review on Youth Issues across all 47 counties. The review aims to:
Gather evidence-based insights on youth experiences.
Assess youth perceptions of governance.
Evaluate awareness of government programmes.

The findings will be used to:
Inform policy improvements.
Strengthen youth participation in governance processes.
Enhance the effectiveness of youth empowerment initiatives at both national and county levels.

SPEAK Kenya proudly joined the celebrations of International Women’s Day at Nakuru Athletics Club, together with our dedicated paralegals and beneficiaries from the community.
The event provided a powerful platform to celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women and girls while reaffirming our commitment to advancing rights, justice, and equality for all women and girls.
Our paralegals engaged with community members, shared valuable legal awareness, and highlighted the importance of access to justice, especially for vulnerable women. The participation of our beneficiaries also reflected the impact of community empowerment and collective action in addressing social injustices.
As SPEAK Kenya, we remain committed to amplifying women’s voices, promoting gender equality, and strengthening community-based justice systems.

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8th as a moment to honor women’s achievements and to call for action. This year, IWD emphasizes the urgent need to end impunity, defend the rule of law, and ensure equality in law, in practice, and across every sphere of life for all women and girls.

As part of these efforts, SPEAK Kenya, NLAS (National Legal Aid Service), and NSDCC (National Syndemic Disease Control Council) participated in a radio talk show on Radio Yetu. The discussion highlighted critical issues, including:

Women’s and girls’ rights

The “triple threat” affecting women and girls

Access to justice for marginalized groups

Tackling TFGBV (Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence)

The role of government, civil society organizations (CSOs), and communities in advancing equality
