From six boys in a modest rented home to a thriving community in Gilgil. ❤️

Restart Africa’s story began in 2008, during a difficult period in Kenya’s history, when many children affected by post-election violence found themselves on the streets.

What started small soon grew. More children came through our doors, the need increased, and our little home could no longer accommodate everyone. Through the generosity of supporters, a new Centre was built, and in December 2014, the children celebrated their first Christmas in their new home.

Today, Restart is much more than a home. Our local projects create opportunities, support the Centre and provide employment within the Gilgil community.

16 years later, the journey continues. 🌱
Six children started the story. Together, we can help shape the next chapter. ❤️

Meet Emily, one of our recent volunteers. ❤️

For six weeks, Emily spent time at Restart Africa getting to know the children through games, cooking, field trips and plenty of memorable moments.

She described her experience as one of the most positively life-changing events she had experienced, and we’re so grateful for the joy, kindness and memories she shared with the children.

Meet Johnson, our musician!

For Johnson music is more than a passion, it is something he hopes to build a future around. Now pursuing higher education in music, he dreams of becoming a music teacher and inspiring others through his love for music.

At Restart, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover their potential, nurture their talents and pursue their dreams.

Support Restart and help us give more children the opportunity to thrive. ❤️

When familiar faces came back to visit us recently, it did not take long before a football match broke out on our grounds. Our kids on one side, our guests on the other, playing for real.

It is something we see often here. Football is part of who our kids are, and anyone who spends time with them notices it fast.

That passion has brought us more than we expected over the years. Visitors who watch our kids play have gone on to send back boots, jerseys, and footballs, simply because they saw the talent and wanted to support it. That same energy is part of what led to Restart Africa FC, giving young people across our wider community a place to grow their game.

A big thank you to Sophie Hall and Abigail Cahm for spending time with us at Restart Africa. 💚

From joining in on activities like our bonfire evenings to making memories with the children, we’re so grateful for the time, energy, and kindness they brought to their visit.

We also got to celebrate Sophie’s birthday with the children, who made sure she received a very special Kenyan birthday surprise… a good old-fashioned water shower! 💦😂🇰🇪

Thank you, Sophie and Abigail, for the wonderful memories. We hope to see you again soon! 💚

On Monday, 27th July, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 30 students from Starehe Girls' Centre, one of Kenya's leading national secondary schools, renowned for nurturing academically gifted young women and developing future leaders through excellence, discipline, and service.

The students spent the day connecting with our children through an exciting talent show, games, conversations, and shared moments of joy. They also presented generous donations to support the children at Restart Africa.

Visits like these remind us of the power of young people coming together to inspire, encourage, and uplift one another. Beyond the gifts, it was the friendships formed, the laughter shared, and the memories created that made the day truly special.

To the students and teachers of Starehe Girls' Centre, thank you for your generosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to serve. Your visit left smiles on many faces, and we are incredibly grateful for your support. We look forward to welcoming you back to Restart Africa in the future. ❤️

Seven years ago this month, Charlotte arrived at Restart Africa as a 16-year-old volunteer, ready to spend a month learning, sharing, and making memories with our children and team. Alongside her friend Amelia, she brought so much kindness, energy, and love to our community. ✈️🇰🇪❤️

Charlotte formed a special connection with Restart, and after her passing in April 2022 at just 19 years old, her loved ones chose to honour her memory by supporting the place she cared so deeply about.

Through the incredible generosity of her family, friends, and supporters, around £50,000 was raised for Restart Africa. This support has helped many of our older children pursue their dreams through university education, creating opportunities and brighter futures.

Lottie’s Way, the charity established in Charlotte’s memory, continues to carry forward her passion for supporting vulnerable children in Kenya. Through their ongoing support, Charlotte’s kindness and love for Restart continue to make a lasting difference.

We are forever grateful to Charlotte’s family, friends, and everyone at Lottie’s Way for keeping her memory alive and walking alongside us in our journey. Her impact lives on through every young person given the opportunity to learn, grow, and build their future. 🌍✨
