In an effort to promote the achievement of 30% forest cover and restoration of degraded land, we have donated 10,000 indigenous trees seedlings to the community in Saka ward, Garissa county. This project is fully funded by WWF-Kenya through the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) program.

Present were Mr Robert Kigambo representative from the office of Head of Conservation for North Eastern Region, the Ecosystem conservator for Garissa county Mr Christopher, Saka ward Member of the county assembly Mr abdiweli, local leaders and community.

We look forward to implement similar initiatives in other wards in Garissa county that face environmental degradation.

Saka ward is rich in acacia trees though it’s facing a serious threat due to charcoal business looming in the region. The same tree is the main feed for livestock like camels, goats and others. In an effort to demonstrate the relationship between the indigenous tree species and the animals reared by the local communities, Global nature conservation through its activity dubbed “ Camel Caravan for Riverine restoration “ supported by WWF-Kenya through Voices for Just Climate Action conduct a roadshow to educate the public about the importance of conserving the tree species in their ecosystem.
Later in the year, the organization planned to grow 10,000 acacia trees in the ward to restore those that has been destroyed.
