Double loss for the ecosystem.

This tree was apparently cut down at Kenyatta Hospital or around that area.

I am not sure why the tree was cut down. This tree was home to a family of one of the world's largest birds- Marabou stork.

Some chicks may have been killed 😥

When I was doing a project on waste and recycling management years ago at Dandora landfill, I was fascinated by these birds at the landfill.

I did a little research...

These birds are the best cleaning team in the animal Kingdom!

They are human friendly! They feed on garbage and almost anything...

Even plastics!

If you find them around your environment, know that your environment is dirty!

Don't chase them away! In short, shape up and clean your environment and they will relocate.

If you cut the tree to make them move, you are actually causing more harm to yourself and others.

Rhino Ark Kenya has been protecting our forests and wildlife across Kenya for many years.

Yesterday, the organisation invited me and my Karen Forte Foundation members to their offices in Karen.

We first met in Meru last month during the disputed Imenti forest public participation.

We have so much in common. Only that we are the younger generation representing their work in the future.

We are exploring ways on future collaborations.

We expressed our concerns about the future of the forests we are growing.

It is only when established organisations like Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust work with children and the youth can the future of our ecosystems be secured.

Our green spaces in our cities and towns continue to become smaller and smaller. Meanwhile, the climate gauge continues to rise.

In my efforts of encouraging schools to utilise the small spaces they have, I was honoured to be a special guest at Bright Mark Schools - Embakasi

During their annual Environmental Awareness Programme yesterday, we planted trees and initiated a school tree nursery.

I pledged my support for free potting bags.

My environmental club members also gave encouraging speeches to the learners. And crowned two new environmental ambassadors.

At Karen Forte Foundation, we are running a new school programme called -The Grove.

Here, we will plant and grow fruit trees or other indigenous trees.

We are working with schools to grow with them a special Grove in their small school spaces or elsewhere.

We will then monitor and grow the grove in partnership for 3 years. Until maturity.

The school's Grove will have a special tag to it from Karen Forte Foundation to encourage upcoming environmentalists in schools.Plus a certificate from us.

Imagine in 10 years, if each school grew just 10 fruit trees in one corner of the school.

The progress will be documented continuously on our website www.karenforte.org.

Much appreciation to the school's director Mr Kamau for the invitation.

The world must do more in combating climate change. The planet is heating up.

How much more will have changed in 30 years from now?

It's facts like this that motivate me to do more.
